Title: The pain of division
Contents
Yesterday was the 54th anniversary of Memorial Day.
Korea is what it is today because there are people who did not spare their lives and gave up their lives for the sake of the country and people.
Unfortunately, it is bittersweet to hear that even the public institutions that we have seen in the news did not raise the flag.
The background of Remembrance Day was created through the 6.25 Incident in a situation that was divided into South and North Korea.
division of north and south.
However, today's text also introduces the background of the beginning of the division of Israel in the south and Judah in the north.
Why was Israel divided into north and south?
First, because they worshiped idols.
1 Kings 11:9-13 “The LORD was angry with Solomon because he had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel. because I did not follow
The LORD said to Solomon, "Because these things have happened to you, and you have not kept my covenant and the decrees that I commanded you, I will by all means take this kingdom from you and give it to your servants. I will take it out of your son's hand, but I will not take the whole kingdom, but I will give to your son a tribe for David my servant, and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen."
1 Kings 11:31-36 “Then he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “I will tear this kingdom out of Solomon’s hand and take it, and give you ten tribes.
I will give Solomon one tribe, but for David my servant, and for the city Jerusalem, which I have taken out of all the tribes of Israel; I have not walked in my ways, not as the works of righteousness, nor have I walked in what is right in my sight, nor my statutes or my statutes.
But my servant David, whom I have chosen, has kept my commandments and my decrees, so that I will not take the whole kingdom from Solomon's hand, but to rule it for him during the days of Solomon.
I will take the kingdom from his son’s hand, and I will give him ten tribes, and I will give him a tribe, that there will always be a lamp before me to David my servant in Jerusalem, the city I have chosen to put my name on.”
Colossians 3:5-6 “Therefore, put to death your members that are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry, for which the wrath of God comes.”

Second, it was Rehoboam's mistake.
Ignoring the old men.
Verse 8, “The king forsook the old man’s teaching and consulted with the boys who had grown up with him who were standing before him.”
Verse 13: “When the king answered the people with harsh words, he forsook the old man’s teaching.”
Instead of listening to the elders, we listen to the boys we grew up with.
Verse 14, “According to the boy’s teaching, he told them, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will make your yoke heavier. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”

What were the words of the elders who were old men?
Verse 7: “Then he answered and said, If the king today be servants of this people and serve them, and answer them in a good word, saying, “They will be your servants forever.”
It was about serving the people.
As Jesus in the New Testament said, humble yourself as a servant of the people.
Matthew 7:12, which is well known as the golden rule, comes to mind.
“Therefore, whatever you would like others to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
On the other hand, what about the boys?
Verses 10-11, “The boys who had grown up with him told the king, “These people said to the king, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you made it light for us. thicker than my father's waist
My father put you under a heavy yoke, but now I will make your yoke heavier. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
I will arrange the words.
There is a saying 'come and go'.
These days, we live in a world where new things are created and developed when we wake up for just one day.
If you do, you may think that the existing stuff is banal and ignore it.
But remember.
It means that we must live a life based on the Word of God, leaving behind the old and the new.
It is clear from today's message that the advice of the elders reminds us of the life of service of Jesus Christ.
As I said in the previous example, I sincerely hope that all of us will listen to the elders and spread the fragrance of God-centered life away from idols.
