Title: The person who gave up the opportunity
Contents
a person who has given up on a chance
Hebrews 11:13-16
Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Jacob in today's text
1. A person who has given up on his/her own opportunity.
Those who have given up the chance to live well on this earth and the opportunity to succeed, in order to live well and succeed, one must follow the ways of this earth… … Because the saints live according to the Word. Abraham in the text could have gone back to Haran and returned to Ur of the Chaldeans to live the life he once had. However, today's text says that they have given up the opportunity themselves. Now Abraham gives up everything and lives as a wanderer. There is no clear dwelling place. There is no house to stay. You have to get food every time. Perhaps, Abraham's heart may overflow with longing for Ur and Haran of the Chaldeans. But he did not shy away from the difficulties and pains of the present. You are giving up your own chance. It's not something someone else stole. A life that is unavoidable is not something to live. You have chosen this path yourself. This is the life of a saint. The life of a saint is not passive. The life of a saint is active.
2. Longing for a better hometown.
Why could you give up? Today's text speaks about why. It is said that it is precisely because they longed for a better homeland. A hometown better than the Canaan we live in now, a hometown better than the land of blessings Canaan. It is heaven. Why are we living as saints today, not following the way of success on this earth, not taking the good things of this earth, and not compromising with sin? It's because of a better hometown. Even if the things of this land are pleasing to the eyes and give us comfort, it is because we have a better homeland that we dare to give up. I want you to have this hope. I want you to have this hope that Abraham's ancestors of faith had.
3. Makes God proud.
Saints do not live passive lives in the world. The saints live an active life in the world. We are those who have given up on ourselves the opportunities and benefits of the world.
