Title: The Pilgrim's Life (Hebrews 11:13-16)
Contents The author of the book of Hebrews expressed the warriors of the past as “pilgrims”. By the word stranger here we mean pilgrims, not travelers. In 1 Peter 2:11, “Beloved, I urge you, as strangers and passersby, to control the lusts of the flesh, which fight against the soul, as you ought to control the lusts of the flesh.” These are what Paul referred to as “our citizenship is in heaven” in Philippians 3:20.
2. A stranger is always ready to return to his hometown Verse 14 says, “Those who speak like this show that they are looking for their hometown.” A foreign traveler in a hurry to prepare to return home never buys land, a house, or a good farm there. They are all things that are difficult to transport when returning home. Also, those who are preparing to return to their homeland do not make great and deep connections with the places where they work. In the same way, we always have a body to return to our hometown of heaven, so we have to make sure that we do not form a deep connection with this world. When a person earns a lot of money abroad and prepares to return to their home country, studies a lot and makes great progress and returns to gold, they are welcomed back home and have a good time. However, those who have exhausted their lives abroad, but have made all the preparations there, do not live well when they return to their home country. Therefore, we should know that all our life on this earth is a life of preparation for heaven, and we should work hard for it.
