Title: The Prayer of Jesus / John 12:27

Subject : Jesus' Prayer / John 12:27-

[KJV] John 12:27

Now my heart is troubled, what can I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this I have come at this hour.

[KJV] John 12:28

Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.

[KJV] John 12:29

The crowd who stood by and heard said that the thunder had wailed, and some said that an angel had spoken to him.

[KJV] John 12:30

Jesus answered and said, This voice was not made for me, but for you.

Before Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, he was already praying earnestly. I would like to think about the content of prayer and the prayer that is answered through God's answer.

1. Jesus' prayer

Before the cross, Jesus prays earnestly to God.

(1) Now my heart is embarrassed

① The word [embarrassed] originally came from the word [to cloud the water].

In other words, Jesus' heart was very agitated before the cross.

②Why did Jesus' heart become embarrassed?

Was it because of the fear of the cross, the fear of death, or the weight of the sins he bore instead?

-no-

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Son of God, the Christ, and the Almighty.

*Jesus calms the stormy sea and tells his disciples

Mark 4:40 Then he said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid?

How is it that you have no faith?

*Before he was slain in the Garden of Gethsemane, he said to his disciples,

John 14:1 Do not let your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.

Why was Jesus embarrassed? And what does [embarrassed] mean?

③ Before dying on the cross, Jesus spoke seven words, and among them, [Elieli Nama Sabachthani] was mentioned.

Mark 15:34 On the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, Eli, Eli, Lama, Sabachthani.

When translated, it means, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

These words are not the weak cry of a man full of anguish.

It is a mystery among mysteries.

Hymn 25:2 [Take the crown]

Take the crown and present it before the Lord, The wounds of his hands and body are shining in glory

Even the angels of heaven long to see his glory and to know the mystery of suffering.

said

James Boyce said this in [Explanation of the Gospel of John]

It is because [death on the cross is a momentary separation from God, a severance of fellowship].

In other words, Jesus [distracted] bore the sins of the world in his place, and when he died on the cross, he

It is said that the heart was troubled to the point of embarrassment about the disconnection.

(2) What would you say?

Nevertheless, Jesus goes on to pray, [What will you say?]

① This means that as God’s [servant of suffering], there is no other way than to go the way of the cross.

It means accepting that death completely.

②[There is nothing else to say. There is nothing to add].

③ It has the same meaning as the words of Mark 14:36.

Mark 14:36 He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible with you; take this cup from me and take it away. But not as I will, but as you will."

(3) Father, save me and get me out of this time.

① These words are like the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Mark 14:36 He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible with you; take this cup from me...

(4) But for this I have come at this time.

① The conclusion is that you fully accept the way of the cross, the final point of the Lord's earthly ministry.

(5) Father, glorify your name.

① Jesus emphasized the work for the glory of God by repeating the glory of God in his work.

**** Characteristics of Jesus' prayer

I. I prayed with a sincere heart and a contrite heart.

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.

A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

II. I sought God's will.

III. He prayed for the glory of God.

2. God's Answer

(1) Then there came a voice from heaven, saying,

①An answer from heaven is a powerful answer to the Lord's prayer.

② In Jesus' life, there were three times of acclaim.

*At baptism

Mark 1:9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River.

Mark 1:10 Immediately, coming up from the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove.

Mark 1:11 A voice came from heaven, saying, You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.

* When transforming a metamorphic acid

Mark 9:7 Just then, a cloud came and covered them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”

*Before being crucified

John 12:28 ... Then there came a voice from heaven, saying, I have already glorified it.

I will glorify you again

(2) I have already glorified

① During the work of the world, God has already glorified Jesus Christ.

②Augustine interprets

[I have already glorified my name in your incarnation, in your miracles, in your words, and in your ministry]

(3) He said that we will glorify it again.

① This means the resurrection and ascension after the death of the cross.

② This means the Second Coming and Judgment in the last days.

③Augustine interprets

[I will glorify you again in your sufferings, in your death, in your resurrection, and in your ascension]

3. Influence of Prayer Answers

(1) The crowd who stood by and heard it said that the thunder had wailed.

①They did not know for sure, but they recognized that something unusual had happened.

(2) Others said that an angel spoke to him.

① Although some of them do not know the meaning, they accept it as the voice of an angel.

(3) Jesus answered and said, This voice was made not for me, but for you.

①Jesus himself did not strengthen his faith by hearing the voice, but to those who heard the word,

That gives great confidence.

②Then, it is the sound of thunder, what it is, and what it means to those who do not know.

will it?

③Jesus is looking for believers who will know the meaning of his voice.

***conclusion

1. Jesus' prayer is a prayer that we ask with a sincere heart and a contrite heart

It was a prayer asking for the glory of God.

2. God's answer is that the glory of God is revealed through [the one who prays].
