Title: The Purpose of Revelation and Miracles
John 21:4-6 ‘4. At dawn, Jesus was standing by the seashore, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5. Jesus said to him, “Son, do you have any fish?” He answered, “No.” Then they threw it, and the nets were too many to catch.” - Amen.
It was not that Peter initially caught a lot of fish miraculously. In John 1:41-46, his brother Andrew-Peter. And the next day the Lord gave Philip - and Philip - Andrew. And in Luke 5, Peter gets the miracle of catching a lot of fish and is called to be an apostle.
What is the purpose of this revelatory and miraculous work of the scene where Jesus experienced another miracle after his resurrection?
1. Jesus came to speak
Among the many fishermen, Peter and the fishermen with him, Andrew the brother of Peter, and Jesus who came to James and John - The fact that the gospel was delivered to us among many people is grace.
In the beginning of the Bible record, when he came one time, Luke 5:4 “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Go into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.”
The text is the scene where the Lord appeared for the third time after He died on the cross and was resurrected in verse 14, and again miraculously made Peter catch a lot of fish.
As in the past, the Lord has come and this time John 21:6 says, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat, and you will catch it.”
Luke 5:5 At first, Simon answered and said, Teacher, we have toiled all night and caught nothing.
But verse 4 says, “As the dawning broke, Jesus was standing on the seashore, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.”
(When the sun rises When the dawn is getting brighter, the beach is a little dark?
After experiencing the miracle, verse 12, “...the disciples knew that you were the Lord, so no one dared to ask who you were.
I didn't know that it was Jesus who said that, but after experiencing a miracle, I found out. Then, what kind of feelings did you have to obey? is to do It seems that there was a certain spiritual longing or adventurous spirit of Peter.
The important thing is that Jesus was the Word made flesh (John 1:1, 14). You came to talk, not to hang out or chat.
2. The purpose of revelation is to give a calling to eternal life and its worth
The basic purpose of the church's existence in the world is to live for eternal life and such values.
John 5:39 “Thinking that you have eternal life from the scriptures…”
John 20:31 “But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
After the miraculous event in the text, the Lord reaffirmed and commanded Peter to feed and shepherd the sheep. He did not command us to catch a lot of fish and live well, but he taught us to become apostles for eternal life and salvation. The various experiences of faith are in order to live life with interest in the work for eternal life and salvation.
Today's ups and downs believers say that they cry out to the name of the Lord, fast, and thank God for what blessings they have received. The Bible is not everywhere for that kind of life. It teaches us to change the quality of life for eternal life and its worth. By engraving this meaning deeply, we want to love the Lord more and become more gracious.
