John 14:25-27
June 11, 2000
Today is Pentecost. Pentecost is the feast that commemorates the incident of the Pentecost on the Day of Pentecost. It happened 50 days after Jesus was resurrected. At Pentecost, there was one distinct change that occurred in the followers of Jesus. They are no longer crouching in caves of stagnation and darkness. It is the fact that I came out of that cave and led a lively, hopeful, and joyful life. They hid in the closet and ran out into the street. Those who were depressed and sad were overflowing with joy, and those who were depressed and depressed were alive and vibrant like a spring tree.
First, the Holy Spirit makes me into a dreaming human being. He is making people who live with bright hopes and a clear mission. The poet David prophesied: "The Lord is at my right hand. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue rejoiced, and my body also dwelt in hope..." The Holy Spirit gives us joy. It gives you the will to live. He brings us out of the pit of stagnation. Our Lord also said, "You are grieved now, but I will come again and see you; then your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you" (John 16:22). Those who have the Holy Spirit working in them have joy in any environmental condition or life. Joy is evidence that the Holy Spirit dwells in you. The work of the Holy Spirit brightens us. He fills us with hope and makes us live with joy and enthusiasm. Now, like David, I hope you can proclaim this. "The Holy Spirit is in me, and my heart rejoices, my tongue rejoices, and my body dwells in hope..."
We are called to live like Jesus, die like Jesus, and resurrect like Jesus. That is why we are the people who remind us of Jesus. And it is the Holy Spirit who helps us live like this. Today, on this Pentecost Day, I hope you will listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit who wants each of you to live as people who remind you of Jesus.
