Title: The Right Faith for the Vision

Right Faith for the Vision

Deuteronomy 3:1-29

1. In order to achieve our vision, we need to believe in the perfect God and live a life of obedience to Him (verses 1-11).

(1) The people of Israel do not hesitate to fight the battle that God has allowed them to fight with faith (verse 1). As he did with Sihon, king of the Amorites, he will work to win Og, king of Bashan (verse 2). The Israelites were afraid of King Og of Bashan, but by believing and obeying the word of God, they went to war and tasted victory (verse 3).

(2) God strictly applies the command to destroy idols or their property, livestock, etc. Because the Canaanites worshiped idols and resisted God's people, if they kept them alive, they feared that Israel would be stained with evil (verse 6). So he destroyed Og king of Bashan and conquered all the cities (verse 4).

2. It is a life that participates in the community (verses 12-22).

(1) After Moses won the battle, he divided the conquered land east of the Jordan (verses 12-15). The land east of the Jordan River is divided among the two and a half tribes. So they swore to Moses that they would stand in the vanguard and fight bravely until the war to conquer the land of Canaan was over (verses 16-18). The Israelites were promised the land of Canaan (Exodus 3:8). However, the Promised Land was to be fully enjoyed in the process of forming a nation. That's why the Twelve Tribe Alliance is more important than ever.

(2) Moses gave Joshua a strong assurance of victory (verses 21-22). In the battle of Canaan, the Lord prevails (Exodus 23:23).

3. It is a life of obedience to the providence that God allows (verses 23-27).

(1) Moses sought to enter the land of Canaan (verses 23-25). Moses crossed the Jordan River and prayed that he would allow him to step on the western side of the land, the land of Canaan, which God had long promised to give to Israel as an inheritance (verse 25). For Moses, God is sovereign over all things (verse 24).

(2) God answered No to Moses' prayer for entering the land of Canaan (verse 26). But even though Moses could not enter the land of Canaan, God's comfort was there. He was able to see the land of Canaan from the top of Pisgah (verse 27).

What was God's true purpose for preventing Moses from entering the land of Canaan? First, it is the fact that although we are judged for our sins, our entry into the land of Canaan is never due to human merit. Second, it shows the limitations of the law and at the same time shows the need for God's grace. Third, it was to protect the Israelites. This is because God foresaw these dangers of idolizing Moses. On the road to ushering in a new era, we must see God's unified providence and move toward the vision.

The road to the vision of Canaan must be followed by thorough obedience to God. You have to be involved in the community. And we must obey the providence that God allows.
