Title: The righteous are like a palm tree.
Contents Hymn 505 “The subject of all my prayers”? 508 “May you be like the Lord”
Saints who walk the path of the righteous! It is also the last day of the week. Our worship will be more blessed and gracious as we approach Sunday after a week of life. Today's psalm is a hymn of the Sabbath. The saints look forward to eternal rest while enjoying rest on this earth. Today, the Sunday we separate and keep as a day of worship is a festival of the faith community that celebrates the resurrection of the Lord.
First, the poet praises God for what He has done (Psalm 92:1-5).
The works of God are great, and His thoughts are exceedingly deep (Psalm 92:5). Those who fear God, that is, those who are wise, understand this fact. But the fool does not understand this (Psalm 92:6).
Second, the poet speaks of the end of the wicked. The wicked grow quickly as grass, but perish forever (Psalm 92:7).
All who practice iniquity will be scattered (Psalm 92:9). But the righteous will see God's recompense with their eyes and ears will see (Psalm 92:11). The righteous will prosper like a palm tree and be as great as the cedars of Lebanon (Psalm 92:12). The righteous will still live a fruitful life like a green tree in old age (Psalm 92:14). He will testify to God's honest character throughout his life (Psalm 92:15).
Dear saint! The righteous are a tree planted in the house of God (Psalm 92:13). He grows up in the ‘court of God’. Although the wicked seem to live with all the blessings of the world, the end is self-evident (compare, Job 21:7-13). So let's live like an olive tree with green light from now on. -Amen-
Our Lord Jesus Christ! I want to worship the Lord who gives rest (Matthew 11:28), joy (John 15:11), and grace (2 Timothy 2:1).
