A righteous God (Psalm 94:1-11)
The verse of the text begins with a cry of ‘God’s vengeance’. The psalmist cries out to God for vengeance again and again. So some people look at this and see that revenge is justified. even claim that.
But the poet's revenge is not a request to avenge a personal grudge. Rather, it is expressing one's heart toward the wicked. It is a petition to clearly restore the justice established by God once again. The poet specifically reveals his hope for God's vengeance by asking him to defend the righteous (verses 16-17) and judge the wicked (verse 23). A request to shine a light is a request to openly reveal the evil deeds of the wicked who live in darkness.
Vengeance by humans is easy to develop into another evil when our weakness and sinfulness are added. However, the revenge that God takes is revenge of justice, purification, and restoration through righteousness. This is why we must leave the work of revenge to God.
When living in this world, the saints can feel anger at the actions of unbelievers. I can't hide my heart's anger when I see their actions out of conscience. Seeing those who commit such evil and not punished, the hearts of the saints are wounded. But even then, we must be able to appeal to God who rules over all things. Because the God we depend on is righteous. We must not seek revenge in our own strength and in our own ways.
Because we are weak sinners, we can commit greater sins when we seek revenge.
But if you leave it to God, he will bring justice to you in a good way. Of course, when you are faced with an unfortunate situation, you have to deal with it with the law of this world, but fundamentally, you need an attitude to entrust everything to God. Because the evil deeds of the wicked bring the wrath of God.
The wicked sin carelessly because God is invisible. It is also illegal in law, trampling on your people and taking away your possessions. It is a sin to oppress common people, but to persecute your people is an even greater sin.
You can see the sin of those who persecute your people as against God, as in Psalm 89:51. There is. The wicked even torment God's people and hinder the completion of God's kingdom. The wicked kill and kill widows, strangers and orphans who are weak. Then they ridicule God as a bystander and an incompetent God whom he does not know. They think of God as either blind or blind, or an idol, a foolish being who can see and do nothing.
So the wicked can commit these great sins. But these thoughts are the greatest sins of the wicked. They do not know that the sins of the world are spiritual sins against God.
Their wickedness, in the mercy of God, is not punished now, but will surely be judged in the end times. God's righteous vengeance will be executed at last, and they will be rewarded according to their deeds.
Those who do not fear God will tremble at His judgment, and the wicked will pay the price for their pride.
As believers, we, like the wicked, have doubts about God's justice and sometimes abandon our faith in the unfairness of the world. But will the maker of the ear not hear, and the maker of the eyes not seeing? In the eyes of God, these people can only be called fools.
God is greater than all men. God presents Himself as a punisher and a teacher of all peoples. It means that he has the authority and power to discipline the whole world and make them aware.
Isn't this great and grandiose God capable of judging and punishing humans?
Will he not punish the wicked? The poet asks the wicked. Because of these erroneous thoughts of the wicked, they are bound to be accused of being foolish and ignorant.
Therefore, the vain voices of the wicked who say that God does not see and do not understand are only ‘futile’. The God who instructs with knowledge will punish them according to the measure of truth.
God knows every human heart. Judgment will be clear.
We must fear and fear the God of judgment. The fate of the wicked is already decided.
Because of this, they are the ones who deserve pity. If your heart is filled with anger towards the world right now, trust that God, the righteous Judge, is with us and entrust all your anger to Him.
When living in this evil world, the saints sometimes get hurt by the appearance of a world full of crime and injustice. Therefore, there is a desire to repay evil for evil.
Each time, we have to think of God the judge, the God of vengeance.
We must trust that a righteous God is ruling the world with justice. God's absolute sovereignty has never been shaken. Whether people admit it or deny it, it is the truth.
Even if the wicked rule the world for a while, do not stumble even if they seem to be getting what they want. Instead of praying for personal revenge, I hope that God will judge evil and understand God’s plan and providence and fully obey God’s will. I bless you in the name of the Lord.
