Title: The Sabbath's Completion

Completion of the Sabbath
John 5:9-18
Jesus healed a 38-year-old man in Bethesda. However, this day is essentially the Sabbath. On the Sabbath, eating two or more fig trees was considered labor and a violation of the Sabbath. This is why clashes with the Jews arise after Jesus healed the sick on the Sabbath.
When did the Sabbath begin? The Sabbath is the day God rested. He created for six days and rested on the seventh day. The notion that we take a break means a lot to recharge after working hard. But God rested because there was nothing more to add to the world that he had created and looked good. No blemishes or blemishes. There is nothing more to do. So you rested. Therefore, the Sabbath is a day to commemorate God's creation. It is a day of reverence, service, confession, and praise of God's creation. Keeping the Sabbath is acknowledging that the world was created by God. Therefore, the Sabbath is not a human day. It's God's Day. Working on this day is an act of challenging God the Creator. Working 6 days and taking a day off is to confess that I am not living on this earth by my own strength. It is acknowledging and relying on God who creates and operates. This is the meaning of the Sabbath. It is not possible to rest, but it is necessary to rest.
But a problem arose. The Sabbath is broken. There are sick people on the Sabbath. What was good in the eyes of God has been reduced to a very bad state. Because sin entered. The state of the world, which was pleasing to the eyes of which there was no further addition, was changed to a state that had to be corrected. Death through sin has come in. There are sick people on the Sabbath as a symptom of death. God sent Jesus Christ to heal the world broken by sin. It is for re-creation. You have come for true rest. How do you fix it? He came to take away sin and complete salvation, to break the power of death, and to complete it by the victory of resurrection.
Jesus heals the sick on the Sabbath. And in verse 17, he says, “The Father works, and I work.” Father was not resting on the Sabbath. Healing the sick on the Sabbath is not unique to the sick. He renews our sickness, iniquity, and the broken state of death in a restless world. The restoration of this Sabbath through Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the kingdom of God, the end of suffering, and the completion of salvation. Now, when Jesus Christ came to this earth and died on the cross, He paid the price for sin and turned it into the day when salvation was completed. When is that day? It is the day you rose from the dead. This is the day that God completed the work of Jesus Christ, broke the power of death and put an end to it.
Therefore, believers who believe in Jesus Christ do not keep the Sabbath of creation, but the day of the Resurrection, which is the Sunday when salvation is complete. Sunday is the day when salvation is proclaimed and the Sabbath is complete. Keeping the Sabbath of Creation even after the resurrection of Jesus makes the cross of Jesus Christ useless.
The saints have found true rest through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Salvation has been accomplished for us. Therefore, Sunday is not a day to live depending on my strength. Believers should clearly recognize that Sunday is not their day. A day greater than the Sabbath, which includes the Sabbath, is a Sunday. If the Sabbath is a day that depends on God, and therefore rests, the Sunday should be more dependent on God and give glory to Him. If the day on which the Word was created and rested is the Sabbath, Sunday is the day when the Word became flesh, came to this earth, died and rose again to complete the re-creation. It is a day to enjoy the joy of resurrection. The basis of faith is to become a child of God by receiving Jesus Christ as Lord. And to set apart and keep the Lord's day. Because they are your people. I hope that you will have the joy of resurrection and the grace of being filled with the Holy Spirit through the Holy Water.
