Title: The Sacrifice System/Leviticus 1-7
Contents Sacrifice/Leviticus 1~7
The LORD called Moses from the tent of meeting and spoke to him, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying, If any of you make an offering to the LORD, he must offer it from cattle or sheep among livestock. .......
------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------
The three elements of the sacrificial system are the place (the tabernacle or temple), the priest, and the offering...
Place
The tabernacle was initially provided as a place. Later, King Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem.
The tabernacle is a place provided for the salvation of God's people. This is the place where God dwells. It is a place separate from the world. This tabernacle compares the body of Jesus Christ to the church.
"...This tabernacle is a parable to this day, and the offerings and sacrifices that depend on it cannot be perfected in conscience for the worshiper. Christ came as high priest of the good things to come, and made eternal atonement, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood..." (Hebrews 9:6-15)
pontiff
God's people need priests, or mediators. We need a priest who is a holy mediator who defends the people's weaknesses and weaknesses before God, and the people are not qualified to stand before God. A priest without people is useless. However, even one priest may offer a sacrifice. But the people cannot offer sacrifices without a priest.
The priests chosen from among men had their own weaknesses, so they first offered the blood of cattle or sheep to make atonement for their sins. You become a mediator.
offering
A sacrifice is a ransom for the shed blood for man's sins. Why do we have to shed terrible blood?
It is said that there is no remission of sins without the shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22; Leviticus 17:11). The penalty for human sin is death. Even if we die for our sins, our sins are not washed away. But the penalty for sin is death. However, God made atonement for their sins by offering the blood as a substitute for their lives for the people who would be saved. It is a system to forgive sins without harming human life by using cattle or sheep as a ransom sacrifice.
Before slaughtering an ox or a sheep, the people who offer sacrifices must have a heart of repentance and confession for their sins that have to die. And he lays his hands on the sacrifice, imputes his sin, and offers the sacrifice in place of his life.
sacrifice and repentance
However, even with such a good sin offering, the people who offer it may offer the sacrifice merely as a formality without repenting of their hearts. God hates these formal acts of the law and does not accept such sacrifices. Sacrifice without true repentance becomes merely a form of bondage to humans. The meat of cows or sheep that humans feed on can blunt the human conscience.
Therefore, in the New Testament, Christ came in the form of a man and offered his body as a sacrifice for all men's sins once for all. Christ He is the original creator and the source of all life, including human beings. By offering Himself on the cross as a sacrifice, Christ abolished the sacrifice of oxen and sheep. He is Jesus Christ, who gave his flesh and blood to us as a sacrifice for our sins.
We offer sacrifices to God with repentance of conscience through the sacrifice of the son of Jesus.
Old Testament sacrifices are no longer offered. However, by knowing the sacrificial system of the Old Testament, you can understand in detail the meaning of Christ's sacrifice and the people who offer the sacrifice.
