The Same Christ/Hebrews 13:7-8
There is nothing in this world that does not change. It is true that there is no fixed and immutable value, and that all materials change with the passage of time. Sometimes the word absolute is used, but in reality there is no absolute. The glory of the Roman Empire, which seemed to last forever, began to crumble from within at some point, and then it fell down helplessly by the Germanic people of the periphery who looked down on them as barbarians. However, in today's text, there is someone who never changes, Jesus Christ was yesterday. He said that He is the same today and forever.
1. His existence does not change.
In Exodus 3:14, God said that he was who he was. In James 1:17, he said, "He does not change, nor does the shadow of turning exist." Also, Acts 1:11 says, “This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”
When these words are put together, it is clearly stated that his existence cannot be changed. You cannot change who you are. Except for this God, all beings created by Him are finite and subject to change.
And obviously, when our Lord comes again, when He ascends to heaven, He will come in that form, so He is the same forever.
2. His word is unchanging.
People, no matter how great the words of a person, can only change according to the times and circumstances. We know all too well how often the words of the country's top leaders are not kept and changed. This is unavoidable because human beings themselves are finite and because it is a life that cannot but change. Only the eternally living Christ is the eternal truth itself that transcends time in his words. Truth must not change. The truth of science is bound to change. Therefore, there is no absolute theory. However, if it exists as a hypothesis and a new theory is accepted, at that moment the things that have been held up like the truth until now are discarded as old knowledge. Our Lord said that even if heaven and earth pass away, my words do not disappear, so we can rest assured that we can trust his words absolutely and rely on them. will be. Words that change like people can never stake our lives.
3. His power is unchanging.
We sometimes see many miracles and wonders in the Bible era, so why don't they happen these days? There are those who doubt the power of God. For example, the 40 years of the wilderness at the time of the Exodus were a series of miracles every day. They ate the manna that God gave them every day and drank water from the rock under the guidance of the pillar of fire and cloud, but they stopped as soon as they arrived in Canaan. At the time of judgment, He works regardless of human will. Therefore, today, let us live by faith with the words of the completed message, and even today, when God is judged necessary, miraculous works take place in various ways. Let's remember that even powerful servants like Paul and Peter did not always work miracles.
4. His love is unchanging.
We ourselves know too well how futile human love is. It is so common that even the fiery love between a man and a woman, to the extent that they share blood between brothers, decide to die together, so that friendships of loyalty change according to the passage of time and circumstances and become enemies. But the love of our Lord not only gave His life for us, but He promised that He would always be with us until the end of the world, so how can we not believe in the Lord? Even if your parents forsake you, I promise not to forsake you, and they say that the keeper of Israel neither sleeps nor sleeps. What greater love can there be than this?
