Title: The scheme of Balaam/Numbers 25:1
Content 47. The scheme of Balaam
Numbers 25:1
Chapter 25 opens the door to the story of Israel's harlotry (v. 1). There is an omitted story between chapter 24, which ends with Balak, king of Moab, and their separation from each other in great wrath against Balaam, and chapter 25, which begins with the harlotry of Israel.
On the way back to his hometown, Balaam's greed for material things did not disappear despite hearing the clear voice of God. Because the temptation of Balak to fill the house with gold and silver treasures if he only cursed Israel kept ringing in his ears.
In the end, he did not return to his hometown, but united with Moab and Midian to lay a snare for Israel to sin and devise a scheme to receive the curse of God (31:16, Jude 1:11, Revelation 2:14) ).
“I will show you how God will be angry and destroy his people.” “No, what is it?” “When Israel falls, they will all naturally receive the wrath of God and die.” “But how can I corrupt them?” “I have a good way. First of all, you go to them, get to know them, and get married. In doing so, when a close relationship is formed, you invite them to the festival of idols to worship your god Baal-peor. Then God will surely bring upon them the wrath of death. Because God hates idolatry the most.” “Hahaha, that’s a great idea. Good. You start right now.”
In this way, Balaam came up with a plan to destroy Israel by arousing God's wrath through internal strife and corruption through the beauty world, rather than sabotage by external forces.
Like Balaam's cunning tactics, Satan is now devising advanced strategies to overthrow us. Therefore, we must be awake every day.
