Title: The Sorrowful (Luke 18:18-27)
Contents What we often call the 'synoptic gospel' refers to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. means.
The words we read today are all recorded in the Synoptic Gospels.
Matthew 19:16-29 Mark 10:17-30 Luke 18:18-27 All of these are recorded in the synoptic gospels, so when we study this part, we must keep them on the same line. The fact that they are all written means that these words have a special lesson.
Man wants to live on this earth without worries. How can we live without worries? We think very easily, and it is easy to say what worries we have when we become rich. However, in this verse we read today, There is.
Luke 18:23 "When he heard this, he was very sad, because the man was very rich."
Rather, he says that he was very sad because he was very rich.
It is a common misconception that when we get rich, we will live without worries and without worries.
Money doesn't solve all our problems.
It is said that those who have nothing but money are the poorest.
A person who solves all problems only with money. That person is unhappy.
Hymn 167:3 The riches of this world will not spare you from your troubles and torments, nor will you find comfort in your death, nor will you find your way to that heaven.
2. We think about what worries and anxieties will we have if we become successful and rise in high positions.
In today's text, this man is recorded in verse 18, "A certain ruler asked, saying,"
This person in the text is a government official. As an official, you will find out that he was in a fairly high position.
And in the Gospel of Matthew, speaking of this man, Matthew 19:20, 22 says that he is a young man.
'The young man said, 'Because the young man was rich.' In other words, this man is a young man who has entered the career path of becoming a government official.
He is a person with a bright future ahead. Perhaps we can see him as a person who graduated from a first-class school, passed all difficult tests and is on the road to success. When we think about it, what kind of worries and worries do we have for such a person? He is such a person. However, the teaching of the Bible is that even this person has unspeakable worries.
3. This person was a very clean person in the past, but he also had worries.
I met a man who had been to prison several times before and evangelized. When I tell him to believe in Jesus, I am a useless person. I am a person who has already been abandoned. He was a person who could not have joy because of past mistakes. We all have this kind of heart, whether we know it or not. There are many people who suffer from past mistakes.
Why did I do that? Many people regret why I did what I did.
But the man we read in the Bible today is not like that.
In verse 21, “I have kept them all since I was a child.” Of course, these words are based on human standards. In the eyes of God, no one keeps all the commandments. It is a person who does not suffer.
It is a person who is praised as being good and good by many people.
Saints! Being kind never solves all our worries and worries. We are not saved by our good deeds.
The most valuable thing we need to know here is that we are wrong from this guy's question.
This man asked Jesus, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?"
They thought that they had to earn a lot of money, succeed in the world, and help many people and do good things to be freed from worries and gain eternal life.
The most valuable lesson the Bible teaches us is that a person is not saved by what he does.
Today is Thanksgiving Day.
Why are we thankful If you think that I made a lot of money because I worked hard, and that I worked hard to achieve success, there is nothing to thank God for.
However, when we look at our actions, we deserve God's curse, but we are thankful for saving Jesus Christ, the Son of God, through faith.
Verse 27 says, “What men cannot do, God can do.”
When this becomes our confession, we are freed from our worries, enjoy the joy of salvation, and come out with sincere thanksgiving.
Dear brothers and sisters, let's become believers who give thanks, thinking that God has provided salvation for us, something that humans cannot do.
