Title: The stupidest person in the world
Who is the most foolish and foolish person in the world? Is it an ignorant person, a person who has nothing, a person who is not good at studying, a person who is not good at speaking, a person with an ugly face, or a person with a weak head? no. The Bible does not say that such a person is foolish. Now who is the most foolish person in the Bible?
This person who appears in today's Bible text is truly a person who is so perfect that there is no blemish in the world. This man is a young, energetic young man. This young man knows what is good and what is evil. Besides, this young man is also a man of great wealth. To put it bluntly, he is a young man with a promising future. So he came to Jesus
“Teacher! What good must I do to have eternal life?” Rather than saying, ‘You are asking Jesus what is a good thing.’ Jesus, knowing the young man’s intention, said, “Why do you ask me for a good thing? There is only one good one!” This is what Jesus said to the young man, ‘Do you know anything about me?’ Then Jesus said, “If you want to enter life, keep the commandments!” As if waiting for Jesus to say that, Jesus said, 'Which commandment do you have?' As if waiting for Jesus' next question.
After a while, Jesus spoke in detail while listing the 6th commandment from the top of the Ten Commandments, omitting the 4th commandment from the top. This young man probably knew that what he had done was perfect, and even a good teacher could not say enough and praise himself.
But the kingdom of heaven cannot be reached on its own. Jesus said to the young man, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell what you have and give to the poor! Then you will have treasure in heaven! And come and follow me!” This young man, who had been so powerful, said that he was speechless and worried before the Lord's last question. What was this young man worried about? It's because of material things. This young man really wanted to have eternal life, but he had to give it up because of wealth. Is there anyone in the world more stupid than this? What is it that riches give up on the path of being generous and eternal? We talk like this easily, but when we are asked a question like this young man, I wonder how many people will give up their possessions and follow the Lord.
There are several places in the Bible that teach this. First of all, 1 Timothy 6:17-19 says, “Command those who are rich in this generation not to be lofty in their hearts, and not to put their hope in unrequited riches, but to put their hope in God, who richly gives us all things to enjoy, and to do good works Let them do good, be rich in good works, be generous and sympathetic, for this is to lay a good foundation for themselves in the future, and to take the real life.” Also in James 5:1-5 it says, “Listen, you rich people! Weep and weep for the troubles that will come upon you, your riches are rotten and your clothes are moth-eaten, and your gold and silver are rusted, and this rust will be a witness to you and will eat your flesh like fire. turn Behold, the ears of the Lord of hosts have heard the cry of unpaid wages to the laborers who have harvested in your field, and the weeping of the reapers. You have lived in luxury on earth, and have contacted them, and have fattened your hearts in the day of the slaughter.”
We must not become foolish people like these people who lay up their wealth on this earth and give up on eternal life. Especially among those who believe in Jesus, there are countless people who fall from their faith because they cannot give up their wealth. So the Lord also said, “Truly I say to you, it is difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Which one will you give up on wealth or eternal life, and which one will you choose? You can never have both at once. You must choose only one.
