138-1 Title: The troubles of youth. Verse: Mark 10:17-22
The famous King Solomon was a man who was adept in all learning and was a master in the art of life. He was also a king who personally tasted the heights of wealth and glory.
In Ecclesiastes 12:1, he wrote in his last years, he said, "Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come, before the year draws near, when you will say that I have no pleasure in you."
This was not an open invitation. It is an appealing word because there are so many regrets, pity, and pity that I have lived my entire life.
Mark 10:22 says, “Because the man was rich.” In Luke 18:18, "a certain ruler" is introduced, and in verse 23, "because the man was very rich".
The young man was a ruler and wealthy, so he was the envy of everyone. How many lower-level employees do you have even if you have been in the office for a long time?
Even if you are working long enough, you cannot avoid poverty, but because you are a young elite, you have accumulated wealth and ascended to high office. He's not a young man who's been playing around with life sloppy.
He is a young man who has tried to live a life that is truly worthwhile and true to something. For example, he was a model young man. He was interested in deeper life problems.
It was a profound problem, a religious problem. It was a matter of eternal life. This is beyond the realm of science or theory, and he came to Jesus knowing that it was a religious problem.
He ran and knelt down and asked. The kneeling position was a sign of respect. This is an attitude of zeal. I came to Jesus with truth and zeal, not with a skepticism to try.
The young man in this text seems to have understood that eternal life is obtained by doing something. In other words, it seems that it is obtained as a reward for some merit or good deeds.
The grains, water, air, and sunlight that preserve our lives cannot be measured in terms of money or value in the strict sense.
For the sake of convenience, they only pay the price of labor to grow the crops. This young man thought he would enter eternal life by keeping the commandments. So he said that he had kept all the commandments from his youth.
However, formally, it may have been roughly observed, but in a strict sense, it would not have been possible to keep everything. It must have been approved by God, and it would have been acceptable.
To such a clever young man, the Lord said, "Sell all you have and give to the poor, and follow me, and you will have treasure in heaven."
After hearing the word of the Lord, he could not obey because he was a wealthy young man. The word of the Lord must be right and true, but I couldn't make a decision because of greed.
Here is the trouble and the troubles of life. To overcome this covetousness is to give up on oneself and to take up the cross.
“If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
The blessing of gaining eternal life is such a great event that it is not a product of works. This is a gift given when we believe in Jesus as God and trust Him as our Savior.
Zacchaeus was small but smart, and he was a wealthy tax collector in Jericho. He was not satisfied with his life with his position or wealth.
I went to Jesus because of my intense thirst. However, in order to receive this limitless blessing of eternal life, you have to pay tribute and show sincerity.
In other words, there must be an act of faith. Because Zacchaeus was born short, he was hidden from the crowd and could hardly see the Lord.
So, desperately, he climbed a sycamore tree and met Jesus from above. “When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly.”
He said, "I must stay at your house today." So he came down in haste and welcomed him with joy, but when all the people saw it, they began to mutter, saying, "He has gone to stay in the house of a sinner."
Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Lord. Behold, I will give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have extorted anyone, I will repay them fourfold.
Jesus said, “I have come to this house today, because this man is also a descendant of Abraham” (Luke 19:5-9).
The word Zacchaeus means 'clear' in Hebrew. If you repented of your greed, you would have had no choice but to clear your heart.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." Since Zacchaeus became a pure heart, he could see Jesus and receive Him.
Wellington was the mastermind who defeated Napoleon and gave victory to England. He said, "Education without religion makes man a wise demon."
These are not the words of an educator or a religious person. It's a soldier's words, but I don't know how deep the truth is.
By focusing only on the knowledge of life, society has been devastated by a battlefield between understanding and estimating. Life and humane education will inevitably depend on moral and religious education.
A long time ago, the Dutch ambassador gave a lecture at the UN to the question, "If the US and the Soviet Union go to war, who will win?"
(1) The United States, which has a large industrial area, will win. (2) The country with strong military power will win.
(3) Victory or defeat will be decided depending on how much freedom is given to the people.
(4) Winning or losing will be decided depending on the religion of that country."
A certain writer said, "Isn't it possible that a nation that has the faith to fear the Lord God can win?" That is, he even rebutted.
Ultimately, it can be said that the success or failure of all things lies in the devout faith at the bottom. Faith has played a major role in modernizing our people.
In 1902, Missionary Appelseller, on his 17th year as a missionary to Korea, drowned in a shipwreck while on his way to attend the Bible Translation Committee.
Kendrick, the virgin missionary, died in the eight-month mission, and he said, "Even if I were given a thousand lives, I would give them all to Korea."
According to his will, his remains were buried in Yanghwajin Foreigners' Cemetery. The Bible was given to Lee Sang-jae and Lee Won-ju, who were imprisoned during the independence movement, and missionary Bunger evangelized them, and they became believers.
Missionary Bunger returned to the United States at the age of retirement and died at the age of 80. According to his will, his ashes were also buried in Yanghwajin.
This noble sacrifice was a missionary activity in Korea with confidence in salvation after contemplating the problem of eternal life as a young man.
We, too, should be confident in this eternal life and devote our lives to a life that is worthwhile while we are young.
