Title: The Unrighteous Politician/Judges 9:1-6

Contents Gideon's concubine's son became king of Israel, but there was a problem from the beginning of his becoming king. Thus, it is unfortunate for the Israelites as well as for Abimelech. It seems that it is difficult for politicians to do things with conscience. I think it would be better to see that the political ecology makes it that way rather than the people being bad for the reason. So, thinking about Abimelach, I would like to know a few things.

1. I used relatives.

(Judges 9:2) And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem, and came to his mother's brother, and spoke to them and to all the family of his grandfather, saying, (Judges 9:2) I beg you, speak in the ears of the men of Shechem. Which is better for you, that all seventy of the sons of your father should rule over you, or that one man should rule over you? Also consider that I am your mourner (Judges 9:3). His mother's brothers brought all these words for him. When it was reported in the ears of the men of Shechem, their hearts turned to Abimelech, saying, “He is our brother.” To achieve his political ends, he did everything he could, using people as much as he could, even his relatives. He became king, and he became king with the support of close relatives. What you know here is that getting support from relatives isn't a bad thing in itself. However, the problem is that people who would not normally look for relatives come and ask for help only when they need them.

2. I mobilized thugs.

“(Judges 9:4) He took out seventy pieces of silver from the tomb of Baal-Brit and gave it to Abimelech, who bought it for his debauchery and frivolous oil, to follow him. He had been lying from the beginning. Not all of Gideon's other sons wanted to become kings, but just as all of Gideon's sons wanted to become kings, they sophisticated that it would be better for one to rule than to rule with seventy. Because he has such a personality, idols use money to bribe bad guys, kill their brothers with their own power, and gain power, so they are the wicked among the wicked. If you use thugs as a means to achieve your goals, then it is very wrong no matter what is wrong. Politics should be for the people, but he is a person who should not be born and should not or should not be entrusted with the government as he has been harassing the people by mobilizing thugs from the beginning. Even now, it cannot be said that there are no political thugs, and if there is, the childish method should be abandoned and repented. No thug-like human scum should be in the way of sacred politics.

3. You killed your brother.

(Judges 9:5) And went to his father's house in Ophrah, and slew the sons of Jerubbaal, seventy of his brothers, on one rock; but Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, was left, because he hid himself (Judges 9:5). 6) And all the men of Shechem and all the tribes of Mill gathered together, and made Abimelech king in Shechem under the oak of the pillar." He bought a gangster, killed his brother, and became a king, so a politician with the wrong start was born. Especially since you killed your brother and became king, what kind of happiness can you expect under a leader like him? No, an unrighteous politician can always sacrifice others for himself. Therefore, the people should pray a lot so that such politicians do not come out. "(1 Timothy 2:1) Therefore, first of all, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people (1 Tim 2:2) for kings and all those in high positions, because we In order to lead a quiet and peaceful life in a modest manner.”

conclusion

It is no accident that an evil person becomes a king, but when the people sin, an evil king is sent to punish them for their sins. It is true that when the wicked take power, the people suffer. Therefore, we should pray for holy men like Solomon and David to come out and not sin before God.
