I want to imitate the Philadelphia Church, which is the most exemplary among the seven churches in Asia Minor that appeared in today's text.
1) Church view from the Bible
If you look for the meaning of the word church in the etymology, you can easily understand it. The word for church in the Old Testament is "cahal", which means to call. And "Eda" is a group that has been gathered together with a book box. In the New Testament, "ekklesia" is a group of those who are chosen, and "shnagage" is a group gathered to hear the law. The Apostle Paul called the church the body of the Lord or the holy community, the church of God.
Calvin said, "The church is the mother of all godly people, and just as a mother gives birth to and raises children, the church is a place where they work to give birth to spiritual children, obtain forgiveness of sins and salvation, and lead to eternal life. Taean Just as life cannot be sustained apart from the mother body, the saints cannot sustain life apart from the church.
the function of the church
(1) We must worship God in spirit and truth by sincerely offering worship.
(2) Evangelism must be diligent.
(3) The role for education is important. The Bible is truth. The truth is Jesus Christ. The Bible says it is profitable for all to teach, rebuke, correct, and educate in righteousness.
(4) Fellowship should be known as a function of the church.
The saints, children of God, should all respect each other with trust and love and live in harmony. We must imitate the love of the Lord and be able to love our neighbors.
(5) The serving church. The spirit of service was taught early by Jesus and exemplified by the apostles. We must serve by supporting our time, material, body, and life. Let's properly understand the meaning and function of the church as described above and build the church correctly.
2) The church that kept the Word
Philadelphia Church is a church that has kept the word of God well. Jesus recognized this church. Jesus, who is holy and sincere and has no one to open when closed, praised this church. At this time, even when the pressure of the Roman government, the legal rebellion of the Jewish church, and all kinds of worldly sins made the church difficult, the church kept its faith even with little power until the end and fulfilled its mission. “He that goes into captivity will be taken, and he who kills with the sword must take it and put it to death with the sword. Here is the patience and faith of the saints.
"(Rev 13:10) You have kept your faith from these persecutions. You have overcome the works of the law in your faith to be saved if you believe in Jesus as your Savior. Jesus said, however, that I am not alone, but that the Father is with me. said, "I have overcome the world" and told you to be courageous. Paul said that he was trying to abolish the weak things in the world.
He said that no flesh can boast before God. We must overcome ourselves through faith, overcome the world, overcome the power of Satan, and serve the Lord's Church.
