Weeping Father (2 Samuel 18:33)
- Youngmin Pi -
I. There is a father weeping in front of his children.
This is the case with Adam, who could not help crying in front of Cain who killed his brother Abel. Such is the case with David weeping over the tragic death of his beloved son Absalom. Look at David weeping, crying, “My son,” five times in a short passage. We must not become fathers who shed such bitter tears. How can I not cry? Let's look at three reasons why David had to weep and weep.
1. First: Absalom's death was so regretful that we wept. David loved Absalom so much. Although he gave him the name Absalom, which means ‘father of peace,’ Absalom inflicted great pain on his father David three times rather than peace.
(1) Absalom killed his brother. He killed Amnon, who insulted his sister Tamar.
(2) Absalom expelled David. After three years had passed since Absalom had fled, David longed to see Absalom. Absalom returned, but he rebelled. In Sam 15:30, Absalom criticized David and stole the hearts of the weak. David was driven out. Behind David, who was driven out crying, Absalom assaulted his father's concubines in broad daylight.
(3) Absalom died miserably. Absalom died because of the hair he was proud of.
▶ David, who is the son who made him suffer like this, is crying because of Absalom.
2. Second: I wept because I did not properly become a father. David made three mistakes.
(1) David showed favoritism. He favored only Solomon.
(2) He neglected discipline. According to 1 Kings 1:6, it was not properly scolded. Diligent discipline is necessary for the proper future of your child.
(3) He left a precedent for sin. Because of her adultery with Tamar...
▶ As he repented of his mistakes, David wept.
3. Third: Wept for Absalom's eternal punishment in hell. I did not weep before the death of the child born to Tamar. But Absalom wept because he thought he would go to hell forever. We must pray that our children do not fall into hell. We must become children who will be together forever.
▶ David wept as he thought of his son who would be in eternal suffering.
II. A father should respect the family and take good care of it.
David ruled the kingdom well, but failed at home. A person who values business and work, but neglects his family and church, ignores God and cannot prosper in his life. If there is a conflict between the family and the church, what should be prioritized? Put your family first. When the family is strong, the church is healthy. Our priorities in life are our relationship with Hanani, our family, and our church. It is the responsibility and authority of a father to cherish and govern the family well.
1. A father must make the truth of God clear to his family.
have to teach Dropping out of church, neglecting worship, and disrespecting God should be seriously disciplined. Fathers must fulfill their mission of religious leadership in the home. You must be a father who prays for your children. You must become a spiritual leader and responsible person. Father should pray.
2. Fathers should set a good example. Gambling, alcohol, debauchery... When a father nudges, his son makes it loud. We must teach our children by their actions. Fathers must live right before God.
Ⅲ. It's family month.
When a father neglects to do his due, his children lead a miserable life, and a father grieves bitterly. A father who does not cry like David, whose children are blessed by working hard at what his father is supposed to do. I pray that Father will become a family with a big smile.
