Title: Winding Hand

Text: Mark 12:1-12

The winding hand (Mark 12:1-12)

entry

Everything that moves in this world has its power. Cars run on gasoline and toys run on batteries. Some are by winding the mainspring.

All living things have a source of life. The visible source is food.

If you put power on all of these things, they all work as intended. And I think it moves on its own.

my life

When we wake up in the morning, we feel that we are alive even if no one teaches us. And each one does his own thing. But we don't think deeply about being alive. And they don't even think about their own worth. And he considers himself normal. In this mediocrity, each person wants to live doing what they want to do and want to be the master of their own life.

But we can't live doing what we want to do. A doll has to be wound by someone, and if someone does not start the car even if it is full of oil and drive it, its value can already be said to have been lost.

When we are young, our parents guide our lives, our teachers at school and our boss at work. What we do on our own is limited in the way we go when someone has set a path for us. To get out of here or enjoy a lot of freedom, you have to have something better than others. It can be money or it can be power. We are living today by obtaining that power or by that power. When you immediately recognize all of this, you feel alive.

my worth

What do I value now? Close your eyes and think quietly. You can think of many things: love, money, family, power, beauty, etc. And we live by giving our all to what we think is valuable. And if you feel that you have lost that value, you lose the meaning of life and you think about suicide or get sick. Or, you want to find and eliminate the cause that caused the loss of its value.

different values

However, people's opinions about value vary widely. Some people value luxury bags, but I've seen some people who value plastic bags. Such unusual people are called 'Martians' today.

The driving force that moves many living things and things is various food and various energy. But they need this power because they have a purpose.

The value of biblical characters

The people who appear in the Bible and the people who appear in the words of Jesus also have various values in their respective purposes. They live with the same thoughts as we do today.

The people who trade in the temple courtyard value making money for survival, the disciples of Jesus dream of the honor and power that will come to them when Jesus is revealed to the world as the Messiah, and the Jews have their own possessions with the law of the Bible. It values the adherence to a religious and social position. However, it is clear that in this reality, all the people of Israel had the same hope that the Messiah would come and confirm their worth. This is the difference between the situation in the Bible and our situation. We do not hope for a unified Messiah like the Jews. Therefore, we should consider the meanings of the Bible from their point of view, understanding their situation a little more.

meaning of vineyard

The parable about the vineyard is the story of their life, and through the words of Isaiah 5:1 and below, he is telling the testimony of himself. (Read through verse 7)

The members of the Sanhedrin, the highest self-governing body of the Jews in Jerusalem, saw Jesus' actions and asked where his authority came from. Jesus understood the purpose of this question and asked them again, where did John's baptism come from? The reason why the Jews in the council were troubled by this question was that “they discussed with each other and said, ‘If it were from heaven, why did you not believe him?’ Then it was from a man. Hajirah (9:31-32)”

To them, the parable of the vineyard was that not only would they fail to fulfill their duty for the things God had entrusted to them, but they would eventually hide everything and have their master's son die for their own sake.

modern man look

One day, I was in a hurry and borrowed money from an acquaintance. And I have money to pay back on the due date. At this point, most people don't pay back. This is the power of money. God has provided Israel with the best vineyards, but they are producing inferior grapes from the best vineyards. So the owner is angry.

As humans who resemble God's image live in a beautiful world, human sins change the best things God has given them into their own sins and make them cursed. And it all leads to misfortune. This is our folly.

Now we have to realize that it is not our lives that we live with life, but that there is someone who winds the spring and drives me. And, at least, if there is anyone who thinks that I don't live by sinning, it's like an unwinding toy or an abandoned car full of oil.

true value

We must see and realize what God has done to restore the original value of creation. Now, if we are listening to God's word here, it means that God is surely calling us. Now we must respond to that call and feel the hand of the Lord. We are still nailing Jesus to the cross because of all the things that I have lived for myself and tried to be the center of.

Even if we are living as saints now, if we do not know the true authority of Jesus and our heart toward Him is renewed every day, it is evidence that we do not recognize His authority.

closing words

Do you truly believe that Jesus is the fulfillment of the covenant that saved us from our sins and made us children of God? And do we hate our sins and run toward the grace of the cross? When we realize that our true salvation and life do not lie in energy or food, but in the grace of God who gives us all these things and guides us, when we run by faith, the value of the world is not what makes us live, but the value of God. It is to live as a true saint who knows that it will save us forever.
