Title: The Woman Who Was Forgiven

2012. 4. 22 Sunday morning worship service

Bible: Luke 7:47-48

Title: The Woman Who Is Forgiven

Luke 7:47-48 ‘47. Therefore I tell you, many of his sins are forgiven him, for he loves much, and he who is forgiven loves little.

The text is an unusual scene when a Pharisee named Simon invited Jesus to a meal, and a woman, a sinner who had spread rumors in the town, poured perfume on the feet of the Lord, wept and washed her feet with her honorable hair. Verse 47 of the text is a message to all of us saints, commanding us to imitate the <Woman whose sins are forgiven>.

1. A woman declared a sinner

Christianity is the religion of salvation. Because we must gain eternal life from death. Death came because of original sin (Romans 6:23). Not only original sin, but also numerous human sins that have grown from the root of original sin - all unrighteous sins awaiting God's judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

The main chapter Luke 7:37 said, “There is a woman who has sinned in that town…”

When this woman washes her feet with perfume and tears to Jesus, Simon, the Pharisee who invited Jesus, murmurs.

Luke 7:39 “When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw it, he said to his heart, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what this woman who was touching him was and what kind of a sinner she was.”

The woman who was forgiven was officially known as a sinner. Judging from what this Pharisee is saying, he did not believe in Jesus as a prophet either. I had Simon the Pharisee, who was murmuring like this, answer with an example about the forgiveness of the two debtors. When he asked who would love him more when both the debtor of 50 and 500 were forgiven, Luke 7:43 "Simon answered and said, I think he is forgiven much."

2. A woman who was very grateful to Jesus

When you repent, you are thankful for your forgiven heart, and you do not receive atonement for doing good deeds as the Catholics claim and as some heresy or other religions say. The woman had already had enough repentance and had an attitude of knowing Jesus as the Christ and consecrating her.

1) Expressing as a sinner among people

It must not be easy for a sinner woman to come into the house of a Pharisee who likes criticism, to repent to the Lord of atonement and make a dedication to the Lord of Atonement, so that everyone can see her as she is...

2) Repent with tears and give thanks

It is impossible for a repentant person to have no tears. Repentance is naturally accompanied by tears and lamentations. This woman shed tears of repentance and gratitude.

3) Do your best to give thanks for the most precious thing

In the time of Jesus, olive oil, which was common for hospitality to guests, could be poured on the head, but he did not offer expensive perfume like this woman.

Luke 7:47 “Therefore, I say to you, his many sins are forgiven him, for he loved much; and he who is forgiven little loves little.”

Many sins mean all sins. Because her repentance was sufficient to be forgiven and it was her faith that was forgiven, the Lord said to the woman, '...Go in peace, for your faith has saved you.'

Romans 5:20 “The law came in to increase the transgression; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”

To say that where sin increases, grace abounds does not mean that we must sin more in order to receive grace, but it is the principle that a person who repents like this woman will receive more grace of atonement. He says that how much we give thanks to the Lord is proportional to the degree of our repentance for our sins. Therefore, I pray that you will become a person of faith that gives thanks to the Lord through a life of repentance and repenting that if you do not receive grace or do not give thanks, you are just putting your sins inside of you.
