Old Testament
1. When the LORD defeated all the enemies around him, and made the king live in peace in his palace,
2. The king said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I live in a house of cedar, and the ark of God is in the midst of the veil.
3. Nathan said to the king, "Do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you."
4. That night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying,
5. Go and say to David my servant, This is what the LORD says: Will you build me a house for me to live in?
6. From the day I brought the children of Israel out of Egypt to this day I have not lived in a house, but have walked in tents and tabernacles.
8. Now therefore say to David my servant, thus says the LORD of hosts: I have brought you from the pasture, from the flock, and made you ruler over my people Israel
9. I am with you wherever you go, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you, and I will make your name great, like the names of great men on earth.
10. And I will also appoint a place for my people Israel, so that they will be planted and inhabited, that they will not be moved again, and that no evil kind will harm them as before.
11. And I will command the judges that it will not be as in the days when I ruled my people Israel, and I will set you free from all your enemies. And I tell you, the Lord will build you a house
16. Your house and your kingdom will stand before me forever, and your throne will be established forever.

26. In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to go to a town called Nazareth in Galilee.
27. And he came to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, the son of David, whose name was Mary.
28. And he went in and said to him, "Peace, you who have found favor, the Lord is with you."
29. When the virgin heard this, she was astonished and wondered what this kind of greeting was.
30. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31. Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
32. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
33. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end.
34. And Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I do not know a man?
35. The angel answered and said, The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
36. Behold, your relative Elizabeth also grew old and conceived a son. The one who was originally known to be barren has already reached six months.
37. For no word of God is impossible.
38. And Mary said, "I am the maidservant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed.
