Title: The Work of God (John 6:22~30)
Contents
To the people's question, "What must I do to do the works of God?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is to believe in him whom God has sent. So today, I want to receive grace by thinking about the “work of God” that Jesus told the crowd.
1. People have to work.
When God created the heavens and the earth, He worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. Jesus said, "God works, and I work." God has commanded man to do things. When God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses, he said, “Six days work hard to do all your work.” And he told me to rest for one day. Earlier, God commanded Adam to work, and He also told Noah to work. Indeed, work can be understood as a mission given by God to man. People have to work. Man is made to work. After the Fall, man was cast out of the Garden of Eden and was doomed to live only by working. That is why the Bible says, "If you do not want to work, do not eat.
Saints! I hope you are a diligent person. I hope you are a hard worker in whatever you do. In the Bible, the people called by God and the disciples called by Jesus were all hardworking people. People have to work. You have to work diligently. God pays attention to such people and blesses them.②
2. Man must do God's work.
In verse 27 of today's text, the Lord said to the crowds, "Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life." The word perishable food means temporary food or food for the earthly body. In this text, it refers to the bread that Jesus miraculously fed the crowds in the field of Bethsaida.
It was to eat the bread that people came to meet Jesus. The purpose of Jesus miraculously feeding thousands of people with five fish was to ultimately lead them to believe in Jesus.
When Jesus said, “Work for the food that endures to eternal life,” he meant to believe in Jesus the Son of God. However, people did not understand the meaning of those words and asked again, "What must I do to do the work of God?" Jesus answers this question with certainty. “It is the work of God to believe in him whom God has sent.” Dear saints! Man must do God's work. The work of God is to believe in the one whom God has sent, that is, Jesus. That is the food that will live forever.
3. We must do God's work well (correctly).
According to today's duty, crowds have come to Jesus. They came to Jesus, but they are not workers. You must do God's work well. We must do God's work right. What is the way to do God's work well? What is the right way to do God's work?
① You must enter the church. (Church Center)
When Jesus told the parable of the heavens and the earth, he said that he found people and sent them into the vineyard. The vineyard is the church. The church is the body of Jesus. So, coming into the church means becoming a member of Jesus. Jesus is the head of the church, and all the saints are members of that head. That's why Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:27, "You are the body of Christ, and you are each part of it."
② We must obey the Word of God. (Word-centered)
When you enter the vineyard, follow the vineyard owner's instructions. The vineyard is the church and the owner is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ gave detailed instructions in the Bible as to what those who entered the vineyard should do. Therefore, saints! To do God's work well, to do God's work right, is to obey God's Word. It is doing according to the word of God.
③ We must fulfill our responsibilities as saints.
Just as there are many members in our body, there are also various offices in the church, the body of which the Lord is.
In Acts 6, when problems arose in the church, they overcame these difficulties by setting up excellent workers. The apostles had nothing to do with the apostles, and the deacons were faithful to the offices of deacons. As a result, an amazing revival takes place in the church. When the saints fulfill their responsibilities as saints, the church will be revived and all the problems before us will be completely resolved.
