Isaiah 43:18-21 Things to forget
The old year has passed and a new year has come again. However, the new year of 2009 will also be a year of bundled up again at this time of next year. The years have passed and the years continue to pass without a break. It is a very certain truth and a very ordinary truth, but when the year-end and New Year holidays come, this truth is realized again. So many poets and singers who realized this truth sang about the passing of time. Suddenly, I remember Seo Yoo-seok's song. “Who can stop the passing years?” (I only know this far. I don’t remember much of the world’s songs. I don’t need to remember it.
There are also many songs about time in the hymn. “The years go by, but as a stranger, there is no way for me to stop the painful years from going. Standing by the Jordan River, my friend is crossing. The light on the other side is faint in my eyes.” (Chan 534) “What I have been through is your great grace. How can I say the boundless love of your Lord? Whether you are awake or awake, your hand is always watching over you, and you make all things prosper in the Lord. ” (Chan 460) (I’m sorry that I keep singing good hymns alone. See you later.)
Dear brothers and sisters, each of us is spending the years God has given us. For some, it seems that there is still a lot of time and time to spend, and for others, it seems that there is not much time left in life. But no one can be sure. They say that when they come they come in order, but when they go there is no order. Sometimes children go before their parents. Those who are likely to go first go after a while, and those who are likely to go very later go first because they are busy. And no matter how hard we try not to go, no one can resist in the face of the passing years. This is the truth and this is life.
In our short life of only 100 years at the most, we go through many things. good things, happy things, happy things, thank you
There are work and blessings, but conversely, life is to experience sad, unhappy, angry, resentful, and cursed things. In a short life, only good things happen to everyone, and there is no one who is the only one who doesn't have any bad things. We live our lives going through this, that, and many other things, and this year, we will go through this, that, and many other things.
But how do you rate your past life as each of you has lived your life like this? We divided it into five categories. First, it was very unhappy, and second, it was quite unhappy. Third, I am neither unhappy nor happy, just so so!, Fourth, I was quite happy. Fifth, I was very happy. How many people can confidently raise their hand to say, “I was very happy,” perhaps the fifth? If I answered honestly, it wouldn't be much. So there is a saying in the Bible. “Life is born for trouble, as sparks fly upward” (Job 5:7).
But God sent the Savior Jesus for us who live a sad life, a hard life, a miserable life, and an unhappy life. Now, together with Jesus, we must live a happy life, a bright life, and a blessed life in this foreign land. Let's organize our lives for that. Let's quickly and completely forget what we need to forget in our past life, and let us remember what we will remember forever.
1. Things to forget
In today's text, God tells us: “Remember the former things, and do not consider the things of the past” (verse 18), that is, the things of the past that still destroy and make me unhappy, such as past wounds, past pains, past sorrows, and past shame. will be The Israelites had great pride as God's chosen people. However, they suffered many wounds during their 70-year Babylonian captivity. Most of all, I was shocked to learn that I had been abandoned by God.
And the wounds of the past always haunted them. So they were always depressed. I was always anxious. He always carried the label of misfortune himself. This is what God said to the people of Israel who were troubled, agonized, and unhappy with the pain of the past. “Remember the former things, and do not consider the former things.” This is a statement. Forget the former things ; do not dwell on the past.
There was a sister who always had a gloomy and depressed face. But suddenly the sister's face brightened. became cheerful. Who asked why? Then the sister replied: One day, he was so heartbroken and in pain, he went to the church to pray, and in broad daylight he heard various loud noises behind him. So when he turned around, he saw all sorts of trash cans hanging on a rope and dragging him along, and the rope was tied around his neck.
Even if I kept looking back, there was again and again, and even if I closed my eyes, it was still and again. So I brought them to church and sat down, and behind me was a mountain of garbage piled up behind me. Then the Lord said: Baby, why are you carrying so many rubbish rubbish around your neck? Genuinely repent and liquidate everything.”
So, as he wept, repented of his unbelief and confessed all his sins, a tornado blew from somewhere, but he quickly blew away all the piles of garbage and became clean with nothing. And in that moment, as if the mind and body are flying away, joy and peace and joy flood in. So now, I testify that I am able to live happily like this.
Ladies and gentlemen, don't make yourself depressed, heavy on yourself, and unhappy with yourself, hanging around your neck like some kind of decoration. There are problems such as forgetfulness, amnesia, and Alzheimer's disease, which loses memory as we get older, but it is also a real problem for people who hang around their necks without forgetting bad things for the rest of their lives. In a way, people who do not forget the past misfortunes, remember them in detail, and chew and chew as if they chewed the gum that they had pasted a year ago every time they remember it, are more unhappy than those with amnesia.
However, strangely, things that should not be remembered, things that should be forgotten quickly are remembered for a long time, and things that should not be forgotten easily forget. This, too, is an unavoidable, fallen human nature. At this time, you should honestly pray to God about your weakness. “God, forgive me for not being able to forget the old things that should be forgotten. Forgive me for the sin that caused me to be unhappy because of that. Now, according to the word of God, let me quickly forget the things I should have forgotten.”
Everyone, at the end of the year, people around the world have a year-end party while drinking a glass of wine. We believers should drink the wine of the Holy Spirit in the power of God and have a year-end party with God. What is to be forgotten must be quickly forgotten. So you and I are happy. Korea has many bitter past histories. This was during the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement. At that time, a woman was raped. But after that, after 15 years of marriage, this woman continues to struggle and suffer. Because I still can't forget the events of the past. But God speaks. “Remember the former things, and do not consider the former things.”
Do you have someone in your heart who is like an enemy you can't forget? Isn't that resentful person sitting in the center of my heart and continuing to drive me into unhappiness? Forgive and forget. God has saved a great sinner like me, so show him great mercy by asking if it is necessary to save that person as well. Isn't it unfair to pray in large numbers to God begging for my life while praying for that person to be killed? God is not only my God, but he is also the God of that person, and is not God the God of all of us?
When you hear something like this, you realize a little and say, "Yes, it's a new year, so forgive me now and forget about it!" It's great when you make up your mind to say, "Even if dirt gets in my eyes, I can't forget you! I can't forgive you!” And if there are still those who open their eyes, repent today. And forgive yourself from God. And he said, “Behold, the former has passed away. A new beginning is made” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
God has given me and you a new year. You must be happy in the new year. You have to live a bright life. Moreover, it is a great sin to come to this cold foreign land and live unhappily. It is an act of pouring out the precious grace of Jesus in vain. In order to do that, we must cleanly forget the memories of past misfortunes. We must forget all kinds of hatred, fear, and shame. We must forget our grudges and resentments. We must forget sorrow and pain.
We have the power of God to forget these pains. There is a word of promise. In today's text, God promises us this way. "Purple. I will do a new thing, and now it will be revealed. do you not know it? Surely I will make roads in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, and the beasts of the field, and the wild beasts and the ostriches, will also honor me, for I will make waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, my people, my elect, to drink. This people I have formed for myself, that they may sing my praises” (Isaiah 43:19-21).
In the meantime, I was so thirsty. I've been so tired all along. I've been so unhappy with it. But God promises. “Now there will be paths in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. You will no longer be thirsty, and you will no longer cry out in pain. Rather, the lips of my people, my chosen ones, will be filled with laughter, and praise will not cease.” Hallelujah! Let's sing praises together.
“The desert will overflow with springs. Flowers will bloom in the desert and smell.
When the Lord reigns, the desert will become a flower garden.
The lions play with the lamb, and the children roll with the children.
The kingdom of true love and joy will come soon
The desert will be overgrown with forests. The pretty birds in the desert will sing.
When the Lord reigns, the desert will become a paradise.
It does not bite even if children put their hands in the poison burrow and play with it.
The kingdom of true love and joy will come soon.”
