Title: Things to Remember and Don't Forget
Bible: Deuteronomy 8:11-20
Starting Point of the Word>>
This time, we would like to share the sermon with the title of “Things to remember and not forget” through the words of the text.
Example>>
In the 18th century, there was a slave trader who took black Africans and sold them to slave traders in America.
He had the highest goal of his life to make money by selling those blacks at a high price.
The words sympathy and love were nothing but extravagant emotions, and those around him called him a cold-blooded man who took advantage of random black people.
Then, on March 10, 1748, he was sailing from Africa to England.
Then a raging storm engulfed the ship, and the slave trader, in peril on the verge of death, thought he was like Jonah.
He sought God in the midst of such a crisis of death, and God saved him.
So he called this day 'the day of spiritual birth'.
After becoming a minister, he did not wear the minister's robes, a symbol of authority, all his life, but always wore a slave robe to lead worship.
The reason was that he did not want to forget the grace of God who saved him, who was a slave to sin, because he was so great and grateful.
Among the idioms of the lion, there is a saying, “tidal change”.
This means that people's hearts change all the time, so the morning and evening hearts are not the same.
People think their minds don't change.
I am the same, thinking that only other people's minds change.
But you must know that the most unbelievable is your own heart.
We must realize that there are many things in our lives to forget, but there are also many things to remember and not forget.
The most important thing we should not forget is our relationship with God.
Even in our relationship with God, it is very important to remember and not forget what we should not forget.
If we look at verses 12-14 of the text,
“When you eat and you are full, and when you are satisfied and build and live in beautiful houses, and when your flocks increase, and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold increase, and all your possessions abound, lest your heart become proud and forget the LORD your God.”
I say.
The Israelites are now facing the land of Canaan across the Jordan River.
He was about to leave the wilderness of 40 years of suffering and enter a land flowing with milk and honey.
The time of hunger has passed, the time of fullness has come, and the time has come for the people of Israel to put down the tent and build a beautiful house.
Also, thanks to God's blessing, cattle and sheep prospered, and silver and gold increased, and all possessions became abundant.
But the problem is that all these blessings come from God, but when we receive these blessings, our worries and worries disappear, and when the poverty and suffering disappear, we forget God, the source of our blessings.
Then everything will start to crumble, so I'm telling you not to forget it, again and again.
I hope that you and I who believe that it is the grace of the Lord that we are living by faith now and that we have lived this much.
Go to Word>>
First, we must not become arrogant in order not to forget the grace of God.
If we look at the words of verse 14,
“I fear that your heart will become proud and will forget the LORD your God.”
It says that if our heart is proud, we forget the grace of God.
By the way, there is a passage in this passage that should be noted.
This is the phrase “your heart”.
It means that the cause of a person's pride lies in the heart.
It is said that success, high status, learned knowledge, or rich experience are not the cause of pride, but the mind is the cause of pride.
Success doesn't make you proud.
Having succeeded, the mind that thinks that I am better than others creates pride.
Even in a high position, you can be humble.
Anything is possible if you keep your heart.
But people exalt themselves when they are successful, occupy a high position, or learn a lot.
That's the problem.
Thinking of yourself as higher than others.
When you start to be proud, people who are sincere with you will leave.
When sincere people leave, his success begins to crumble.
The same is true of our relationship with God.
When you say that you are full, that you have moved into a good house, that you are rich and that you have no worries, you close the Bible, break the Sunday, and the prayers stop, the channel of blessing from God begins to be blocked.
So who is responsible for all that?
We try to solve all these problems when our passage is blocked.
However, human beings cannot be held responsible for themselves.
Only God can solve us.
Water flows from high to low.
This is the truth.
Even if we look at the grace of God, we need the grace that comes from above.
Therefore, we must humble ourselves as saints.
At that time, you will be guided from grace to grace and from blessing to blessing.
The measure of grace is doubled as you lower it, but if you are arrogant, you will lose it all.
According to Proverbs 18:12,
“The pride of a man’s heart is the forerunner of destruction, and humility before honor.”
Says.
In Proverbs 16:18,
“Pride is the forerunner of destruction, and arrogance is the forerunner of stumbling.”
You said.
Humility and pride can be said in this way.
Pride is what God hates terribly, and humility is what God loves most.
Pride is pouring out, humility is putting in.
Pride is a loss, humility is a gain.
Pride is closing and humility is the ability to open.
Pride perishes, humility prospers.
We must remember that pride is death, humility is life, pride is falling, humility is standing up.
So what can we do to avoid being arrogant?
It is not thinking “I did”.
The root of man's pride is always in himself.
When I think I've accomplished something, I get proud in that moment.
What we should not forget in this passage is the fact that man fell in order to become independent from God.
When Satan deceives people and makes them proud, there is one thing that leads them into misunderstanding.
It makes you think of growth as independence.
When people are young, they are completely dependent on their parents.
If the parents don't protect it, the child will not be able to develop properly.
Then, the child grows both physically and mentally.
And there are so many things you can do well on your own.
Then they grow and mature to the point where they don't need any parental help at all.
Then you think you are an adult now.
So, I only know that being independent without being dependent on my parents is what I do well.
So, I don't think it's necessary to talk openly with my parents anymore.
They mistakenly think they are all grown up and hate it when their parents try to meddle.
Sometimes, they even get angry about not meddling.
However, the important thing is that there is no absolute independence for a person.
In order for a person to become completely independent, he must enter a deserted island and live alone.
But from the moment he enters a deserted island and begins to live alone, he is not a person.
Because in order for a man to be a man, he must be among men.
Growing up doesn't mean severing relationships and becoming independent.
Being an adult means being dependent in a more mature way.
Now it's about relying on your parents as an understanding relationship.
It is dependent on the relationship that fills the emptiness of the parents.
In addition, it is a mature dependence on the relationship that takes responsibility for the weakness of the parents.
This is mature growth and adulthood.
Even more so before God.
The more we grow in God, the deeper we need to meet God in a relationship of dependence.
Independence is impossible before God.
God is our source of energy, and apart from Him we are nothing.
Therefore, to think that 'I did' anything before God is pride.
I haven't done anything.
Even if I am an adult now, if it were not for my parents, I would not be who I am today.
Therefore, until I became an adult like this, I did nothing but my fingertips.
The more I can do, the more I have to thank my parents.
Even if I am enjoying indescribable abundance and success in a great place right now, I would not be where I am today without the grace of God.
That is why the Apostle Paul confesses, “Therefore, I have already been crucified on the cross of Christ.”
A Christian is someone who lives in the name of Christ.
They do not live by their own life, but by the life of Christ.
Those who live in the power of Christ and in Christ's way.
They live by the values of Christ.
Jesus died and lived for me, so where the hell am I?
At the end of the speech>>
If we look at verse 17 of today's text,
"And I fear that you will say in your heart, 'By my might and the strength of my hand I have obtained this riches'".
He is telling me and you, who are now forgetting God's grace, to realize it in a strong tone.
Even if we have succeeded through our might and strength, we must not forget that the power and strength come from God.
We must not be arrogant, do not mistake ourselves for what we did, and become humble and faithful saints.
Therefore, God's sorrow should not come to us as judgment, but God's grace should overflow and overflow among us every day.
In the name of the Lord, I pray in the name of the Lord that those of us who have to live today and live tomorrow will become me and the saints who enjoy God's abundant blessings by not forgetting and remembering God's grace.
