Title: This is him / 2005. 4. 17
Contents 6:11-13, Psalm 23:1-4
Today's sermon title seems a bit confusing. But in reality, it is a very pure Korean word. And it is in today's text. In other words, 'this person is that person'. In the text, it is found in verse 12, 'This is the man, rise up and anoint him.'
'Is this...' This is God's word to Samuel. It is a very simple word, but it has a very great meaning. There is a very long story unfolding before this verse.
When the age of judges ended and the age of monarchy began in Israel, God chose a man named Saul through Samuel and established him. Saul was chosen because he had the humility of a child despite his tall and tall body. However, after Saul became king, he became extremely proud and neglected to even worship God, and he became lazy in obeying the Word. Therefore, God forsook Saul.
So Samuel was sent to the house of a man named 'Jesse'. Jesse had several sons. Samuel actually interviews the sons one by one. Every time a son comes before him, Samuel inwardly asks God. Lord, are you this person? no. Lord, are you this person? no. In the end, all seven sons passed, but no one answered. Then Samuel asks. Are these all your sons? I have a youngest son, but I am now tending sheep in the fields. Bring the son. So the youngest son is called in haste and stands before Samuel. This child was David. He stood before Samuel in the same clothes he used to herding sheep in the field, with a sheepdog and a sling in his hand, not knowing what it was. Then God spoke into Samuel's heart.
'Arise, and anoint him'
This is where the phrase 'it's lice...' comes from. 'Is this...' What does this mean? 'This David is the one I have chosen...' 'This child is the king who will rule over Israel...' 'This little child is a man after my own heart...' 'From this child's offspring a savior will be born...' 'Is this...' is a very simple word, but how much meaning does it hold?
Dear saints, I hope that you too will hear these blessings from God.
'This is the one I love...' 'This is the one who refreshes my heart...' 'This is my faithful one...' 'This is the one who makes my heart happy...' He is a person who rejoices in blessing...' I pray that these blessings will be addressed to you.
'This is it...' This is what God said to David. So Samuel anointed the boy. God chose this shepherd child. What was it about David that made God choose this child? What was God's standard of choice?
God saw David's pure and true heart.
Don't look at her appearance and height...
My seeing is not like that of men.
Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 16:7
Although David was a shepherd boy, he was a boy with clear faith and experiential faith. While shepherding sheep in the field, he experienced God's help whenever he went through this or that. Sometimes I experienced the mystery of God's creation while watching the rising sun, and sometimes I felt God's love by looking at the stars in the night sky. And sometimes they experienced God's care and grace through the fear of the dark night and the battle with wild beasts. These experiences of faith have been accumulated, and it has become a faith that can stand up to Goliath boldly. This is where the famous poem 'The Lord is my shepherd' was created.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures and leads me beside still waters.
He revives my soul and leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil
You are with me; Your staff and staff comfort me. Psalm 23:1-4
This poem does not just sit at the head of a desk and write it down. It contains the confession of faith that David met and experienced in his life. You can see the beautiful center of David.
On the other hand, what kind of character was Saul, the forsaken king? Saul was at first a very humble, trusting man. But after becoming king, he changed a lot. A person's personality and attitude also have inertia. So, when you go up to a certain position, you are humble at first, but later you take it for granted, and you want to be treated more and more, and then you will complain that you are not treated. You could call this a kind of positional inertia. The greater the desire for power and the less personality, the greater this positional inertia. Saul is a prime example.
When he was first chosen to be king, he hid himself because he did not deserve to be king. This may be humility, but in other ways it can also be the appearance of a person lacking confidence. That is why, even after becoming king, he continued to suffer from a sense of inferiority. In the end, he disobeyed God and was full of envy, and he suffered from depression all the time. In particular, he was very jealous of David because of his human comparisons and his obsession with authority. To get rid of him, they stalked the whole country and pursued David. In the end, Saul wasted his entire life on this complex about David and ruined his whole life.
In a way, Saul's complex about David is also a complex of modern people. Comparisons with others, competition, and superstitious thoughts... This was the complex Saul had. And it is a complex of modern people as it is.
The most popular word these days is that it is cool. Ulzzang, handsome, popular, money, what, what, what.... handsome is trendy. Most of these words are all about appearance. They even said that the face of a female robber that appeared on a wanted flyer a while ago was pretty, so I took a picture of it with a digital camera and posted it on the bulletin board, and the robber became an ulzzang. People these days are obsessed with looksism, which says that everything works as long as you are morally pretty, good-looking, and good-looking.
It can be okay to think of yourself as handsome or to praise someone who is handsome. But there will always be the opposite. They fall into a sense of inferiority because of their ugly faces, become fan ladies while injecting drugs to fix their faces, jump off the roof because of poor grades, and even lock their family in a car and set fire to death because their son?셲 grades are not up to expectations. Anyway, what are all these things? It comes from appearanceism.
Even if we are not to that extent, we should humbly look at whether or not we are implicitly involved in this superficialism. It is true that people have that kind of mind to some extent, but it is true that people have that kind of mind to some extent. That is the root of appearanceism, the Saul complex.
Great things are not done by appearance. Socrates is said to have a ragged face, small, protruding eyes, short stature, and very unattractive. And it is said that Calvin, the Reformer, was a poor man with a skinny body and face and always had water in his eyes. Lincoln, who served as President of the United States, was nicknamed the Gorilla because of his skinny body and face and long legs. The apostle Paul was also short and had poor eyesight. Mother Teresa was not a beauty. God looks at the heart of man and chooses and uses the people God wants to use.
What if the church had great faith, great devotion, great donations, great joy, great gratitude, great love, and something like that? It is said that when people are deceived by their outward appearance, God sees the heart. It means that you are really looking for the center chan. The word ?쐁enter??means ?쐆eart??in the original language. God does not look at people by their outward appearance, but at the heart. The reason he chose David is because he saw the heart of his heart.
May we all be soul-seeing souls.
The image of God in the form of a brother is beautiful
As children of the Lord, I will love and serve you.
When God does not judge people by their outward appearance, it means not only that he sees the heart, but that he sees through the eyes of vision--the future. It means that you see the present self as the future you will achieve. Even if you are lacking and lacking now, you will be right tomorrow You don't live up to your expectations today, but I'm happy to see what you'll accomplish in the future. This is what God sees.
That is why we should pray the same way when we pray. We must pray for a vision, a prayer for the future.
God, I'm not cool right now. But tomorrow will be new.
God, I don't have enough faith right now. But every day I will stand in grace.
God, I am weak right now. But I believe tomorrow will be strong.
God, I am sad now. But I believe that tomorrow will be filled with joy.
God, my appearance is not cool. But my heart is sincere.
God, I have nothing to build on my outward appearance. But I don't know. I love God centrally.
That's how you should pray. Just as God sees us through the eyes of the future, so too should we see ourselves through the eyes of the future, giving us strength and courage.
When Jesus saw his disciples, he always looked at them with visionary eyes. Is there any truth to him? Does he have a pure heart? Does he have a heart to fear God? Does he have a positive attitude towards life? In fact, this is what matters. No one is perfect. The person who acts like perfect is one of two things. Either you don't know yourself, or you deceive yourself. What if it's a little clumsy? What if it's a little lacking? What if there are some mistakes? What matters is whether he is sincere. The question is whether he has a pure heart. The central question is whether you are a clean person. It is whether there is a passionate heart toward God at the center of it. That is the heart that God sees.
Therefore, I hope that you, saints, strive to become a pure and pure soul. I pray that the inner man will strive to be sincere, pure, and have a heart that fears God. We believe that God loves such a person, blesses them, pours out the Holy Spirit, makes them work, and is with them. God is not looking for perfect people, but He is looking for people who truly fear God. David was such a person.
So, when David appeared, God said, 'It is the tooth...'. We hope that you too receive the blessing of 'everything' today. I hope that all of you will hear the word 'everything' before God. 'This person is that person.' 'This man is a true Christian.' 'This is the person I am pleased with.' 'This is the person I was looking for' 'This is him.' I hope that you will become believers who listen to these words of praise. So, like David, I pray that you will please God and live a more abundant and blessed life in His grace.
