Title: This is Right

Contents

There are absolute rules for a blessed life.

Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments were engraved on two stone tablets.

On the first stone tablets were recorded the four commandments that spoke of the relationship between God and man.

On the second tablet there are six commandments that speak of human relationships.

This is the saying that if you want to live a blessed life, you should put importance on relationships.

It depends on how you relate to God and people.

We love God with all our heart, mind, and heart,

We must love our neighbor as ourselves.

But the first of the neighbors are the parents.

The first human relationship you have after you are born is the relationship with your parents.

1. Reasons to honor your parents

Verse 1: Children, obey your parents in the Lord.

1) Because this is a command from God.

Therefore, it is not something we can choose or avoid by attaching any reason. Only obedience precedes this command.

2) Because obeying your parents is the right thing to do.

To say that this is right is to say that it is of absolute value.

Respect your parents - that's what you should respect because it's right.

Here, the word 'right' (decaios) has a legal concept, and God as a judge defines this ethics.

The other commandments of the Ten Commandments are forbidden, but the fifth commandment is "Honor thy father and mother." Therefore, not obeying this command is a sin before God.

Parents are God's agents in the home. It is a lie and hypocrisy to serve the invisible God without honoring the visible parents (1 John 4:20).

God said that those who break this command will be judged.

Ex 21:15/ Whoever strikes his father or mother must be put to death.

Proverbs 30:17: The eyes of those who mock their fathers and refuse to obey their mothers will be pecked by ravens of the valley and eaten by eagles.

But these days people have three principles in their life.

How comfortable are you? How enjoyable? How beneficial is it?

I think it's good if my parents feed me, clothe me, and give me property, but if I'm old and not substantial, I think it's a troublesome existence.

But this is ingratitude. In the past, there was a hole in the yopjeon, so even if money covered the front, parents could be seen through the hole and siblings could be seen. The era has come when one parent sacrifices to give birth to and raise ten children, but ten children do not serve one parent. To get rid of greed, you have to think about what is more valuable.

2. Who are the parents?

Verse 1 / Your parents, Verse 2 / Your father and mother.

The first thing I should respect is my parents who gave birth to me and raised me.

And any elder can be a parent.

Leviticus 19:32 / Rise up before your strong head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear your God.

1 Timothy 5:1: Do not rebuke an old man, but exhort him, as you would a father.

Parents also include teachers who strive for spiritual growth.

Elisha saw his teacher Elijah ascending into heaven, my father, my father! shouted (2 Kings 2:12).

3. How is respect?

1) Obedience.

Obedience means being obedient, always ready to act on the words of your parents. And obedience means continuing, not just once. The root of obedience means to listen well. Obedience is listening to your parents and obeying them.

But the scope of obedience is ‘in the Lord’.

It means to obey the Lord, to obey the Lord's commands, within the scope of the Lord's will. Therefore, the word in the Lord means that obedience to the Lord must come first. It says that the priority of obedience is the Lord.

Just as God's people should obey God, it is natural for children to obey their parents. Obedience must come not only from love, respect, and appreciation for parents, but also from reverence for Jesus Christ.

2) It is honorable.

Verse 2: Honor your father and mother.

Respect is a virtue beyond obedience and is the foundation of obedience to one's parents. Obedience without respect is the form of a servant. Respect (Heb/Kaved) = medically 'liver', philosophically 'heavy', 'glorified', 'respect'. Therefore, the phrase 'honor your parents' means to cherish the teachings and commands of your parents like the liver of your own body and to take them seriously.

Also, it means to honor/love, to be exalted. It does not mean unconditional submission, but an act of loving and honoring one's parents.

God has given parents authority. It is not given because of the personal qualities that parents have, but for the order of the kingdom of God. Even if parents make mistakes, it is a sin to infringe on their authority.

Cursed was his son Ham, who exposed Noah's drunkenness after the flood. There is a condition for obedience in the Lord, but there is no condition for reverence, which teaches us to respect unchangingly. Even if your parents make mistakes, upset you, or disobey God, you should love and respect them as children.

3) Respect

Proverbs 23:22: Be obedient to your father who bore you, and do not despise your old mother.

To regard lightly/ means 'to regard lightly' or 'to regard lightly'. This means disrespecting your parents. A true believer should not despise his parents.

Exo 21:15 Whoever strikes his father or mother must be put to death.

Verse 17: Whoever curses his father or mother must be put to death.

Honoring one's parents is the first commandment with promise (v. 2).

Here, the 'first commandment' is the 'promise of supreme blessing' and 'the commandment in the most important sense'. Obedience and respect for parents is not only pleasing to parents, but also pleasing to God. Because it is the word given to me by God who ordained my parents, God is pleased when we obey.

4. Consequences of Respect

Verse 3 says that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.

All the blessings that prosper on earth are expressed as the blessings of those who obey God and honor their parents.

1) you are doing well

This word means 'good luck', 'prosperity', 'blessing'. Therefore, this is a blessing in which all things go well, and it includes all material blessings that bring blessings in management.

2) Longevity (Ex 20:12, Deut. 5:16)

Longevity means living a long time in the present age. But longevity here is not simply a state of longevity. Is it a blessing to live long in pain and misery, or in prison?

A long life in the midst of true satisfaction, joy, and peace, that is, to enjoy the life God has given to you in grace and peace, is the blessing of longevity on earth. If you please your parents, God will please you.

God taught us to obey authority when we were young and put that authority on our parents. This is the order established by God. In the name of Jesus, I pray that you will obey God's word, which is the first commandment for people to honor your parents.
