Title: Those Waiting for Jesus
Bible: Luke 12:35-40
The text is telling a lesson for those who are awake. In other words, it is the attitude that those who wait for Jesus should have. Why should we wait for Jesus? He speaks of a change of status, saying that when he comes, he will seat us and attend to us. Then think about what posture you should have.
First: Be like a servant. (Girl around your waist)
The Jews and Romans of that time wore a robe that was “girded around the waist” (v. 35), and the shape of the garment ran down from the upper body to the lower body. However, if you want to work as a worker or work, you must have a belt around your waist to work. That is, the clothes should not be hung. This was the look of a worker. Jesus also took a towel, put it around his waist, and washed the disciples' feet. This means working attitude. A follower of Jesus must have a girdles around his waist. (2 Kings 1:8) “They answered at times, ‘He is a hairy man. He wore a leather belt around his waist. The king said, "This is Elijah the Tishphite."
Second: Be the one who lights the lamp.
“Turn on the lamp” (v. 35). When the light is on, it means that work is being done. A house whose lights are off is an empty house, and as a sleeping house, a house favored by thieves, we must light our hearts. Even if there is a lamp ① If the light is not on, then the lamp is out of oil. R. Jones called such a person the waiting of a pseudo-Christian. ② A person whose light is dim because of little oil is a Christian with little faith ③ It is said that Christians who are full of oil and whose lights are burning brightly are those who are waiting for the true Jesus. May we be watchers of our lamps. I hope that you will not become like the five foolish virgins who could not get a bridegroom because the lights went out.
Third: Be a watchman.
It is said that the Lord will come and bless such people. “Blessed are his servants when they find their master awake. “Truly, I say to you, the master girded himself, and set his servants on their seats, and came and ministered to them” (verse 37).
