Old Testament
1. When Sanballat heard that we were building a city, he became very angry and made fun of the people of Judah.
2. Speak to his brethren and the army of Samaria, saying, What are these feeble Jews doing, to fortify themselves, to offer sacrifices, to finish their work in one day, or to raise up the burnt stones from the heaps of dust?
3. Tobiah the Ammonite was by his side and said, "The stone wall they are building, even if a fox climbs it, it will soon fall down."
4. Hear, our God, for we are despised. I hope that they will put their reviling on their heads, and they will become a prey and a captivity to the Gentiles.
5. Do not cover up their iniquity before you, and do not blot out their sin, for they have provoked you to anger before the builders.
6. So we built the city, and all of it was joined together, and it reached half its height, because the people had their heart to work.
new testament
9. There is no lie in love. Hate evil and be part of the good.
10. To love one another, to be kind to one another, to respect one another first,
11. Do not be lazy in diligence; be zealous and serve the Lord.
12. Rejoice in hope, persevere in tribulation, persevere in prayer,
13. Provide necessities for the saints and strive to provide hospitality.
sermon
Whether we like it or not, we need to know that we are being leaders to the people around us. Although our circumstances and appearances are different, we must know that God has established us as leaders to lead others. At home, at work and in society, we must not forget that we are leaders who influence our neighbors for good. What should we do when we are hindered in doing good as leaders? God wants to give us the wisdom He gave to the great leader Nehemiah.
1. Relying on God: Nehemiah was a Jew and served as a cupbearer to King Artaxerxes of the Persian Empire. By the grace of God, with the king's permission, he had to build the walls of Jerusalem in his homeland, but it was difficult to finish the work due to severe interference from neighbors. But he relied on God.
2. Entrusting prayer to God: When the neighbors Sanballat and Tobiah criticized and ridiculed the wall construction, the leader Nehemiah prayed to God rather than trying to excuse or deny their criticism. It was because they knew that there was only one God who would hear their evil words and not only make righteous judgments, but also give corresponding judgments.
3. Continue to do what is right for me to do: Although Nehemiah was discouraged by external disturbances, internal problems, and physical and mental exhaustion, he did not give up and continued to do what was right. I didn't back down because I couldn't get in the way, but instead put my heart into my work. They worked with one hand in the face of a violent threat, and even with a weapon in one hand, they continued to work.
Finally, the walls of Jerusalem were completed. The shame of the nation's destruction disappeared and a new day of victory was re-opened. The God of Nehemiah is our God today. There is always opposition and hindrance to what is right. But we have faith in God, and the Lord will make it happen.
