Title: Three Women in the Genealogy of Jesus

Text: Matthew 1:1-6 The world of Jesus Christ, the descendant of Abraham and David. Abraham fathered Isaac, Isaac fathered Jacob, Jacob fathered Judah and his brothers, Judah fathered Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez fathered Hezron. Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Aminadab, Aminadab fathered Nahshon, Nashon fathered Salmon, Salmon fathered Boaz from Rahab, Boaz fathered Obed from Ruth, Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered King David. by Uriah's wife bore Solomon,

A prisoner serving time in prison read the Bible and was so moved that he memorized one chapter at a time and then tore it apart and sent it to a friend or relative. He said that the one who received Matthew 1 must have had the worst luck. The reason is that most of them are genealogies, but there is a great spiritual lesson in Chapter 1. There are three beautiful foreign women who not only stood in the ranks of the chosen people, but also participated in the noble genealogy of Jesus.

One . This is a woman named Tamar (Genesis 38:1-26).

Judah gave birth to a son; the first was Er, the second Onan, and the third Shelah.

Er is married, and his wife is a foreign woman named Tamar. But Er was evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD killed him (Genesis 38:7).

In Acts 5, Ananias and Sangbi were both killed when evil came up to God.

Those who do evil in the sight of God must know that they are still dying.

Even here and now, the wicked who repent will live, and the hardened wicked will also die. You must know that the spirit dies, and the economy and business also die.

Judas told Onan, the second son, to go into the sister-in-law's room and do the duty of the husband's younger brother.

It is customary in Israel that when a husband dies without children, the younger brother will marry the sister-in-law and inherit the offspring. However, while Onan lived with his brother-in-law and gave birth to children, he would still be his older brother's descendants, so he used the male contraceptive method established while sleeping.

I should give my third son Shelah to Tamar, but Shelah was still young, so she was afraid of dying again, so I sent Tamar to her parents' house and told her to wait for Shelah to become an adult.

Shortly after the death of his wife, Judah, alone, hears that Tamar is coming to Timnah, near his parents' house, to find comfort in his heart. But Judah did not recognize Tamar, so he promised to give her a goat, and gave her a seal, a cord, and a staff as tokens, and had sex with her. Later, he couldn't find a prostitute, so he couldn't give him what he promised, and he couldn't find the three promises.

Afterwards, it was reported that her daughter-in-law had committed sexual immorality and was pregnant. Judah took her daughter-in-law Tamar and told her to set it on fire. She showed the promises made at that time and sent that this item had something to do with the man, and that it belonged to her father-in-law, Judah, and gave birth to a child. He admitted his mistake because he did not give. Finally, Tamar gave birth to twins: ① Perez and ② Serah.

So what can we learn from Tamar?

The first is the patience to wait until the third even after killing two husbands. My father-in-law did not allow it, but I did not give up and found a new way.

The second achieved its purpose by having a relationship with her father-in-law in order not to be driven out of the chosen people at the risk of death. It is the same as Jacob's desire to receive the blessings of his chosen people even if his bones are broken.

Third, the promises made by the chosen people must be put into practice regardless of superiors or inferiors, and we must know these things more in the sight of God. It is the fact that the promise must be put into practice even with harm, otherwise it will cause great shame and damage like Judah.

Psalm 15 says, “He who dwells in the tabernacle of the Lord has not changed, though the vow made in his heart is harmful.”

Although Tamar lost her two husbands, she achieved a great goal when she tried to keep her chosen position until the end.

Let's have faith that we do not give up as easily as a bunch. Let's become unbreakable prayers.

And like Judas, let's try to put into practice what we promised to God and to man.

Finally, as a foreign woman, Tamar stood in the ranks of the chosen people and took the honor of ascending into the genealogy of Jesus.

2. This is Rahab the parasite (Joshua 2).

Jericho is a fertile land on the banks of the Jordan River, and it is a city inhabited by strong people who surround its walls.

Although Rahab, a prostitute who sells her body and laughter here, is a prostitute, her sense of justice has not disappeared.

First, the motive for the appearance of the prostitute Rahab.

The famous gisaeng, whether old or new, knows all military secrets, political secrets, and economic secrets. It has been said for a long time that when the military builds an army and politicians discuss state affairs, they discuss with a gisaeng while drinking alcohol. According to the legend, on the day of the outbreak of June 25, 1950, high-ranking military personnel stayed at the bar with gisaengs all night long, and you know better that the assassination of President Park Chung-hee happened while drinking with a modern-day gisaeng next to him. will be

Rahab, a prostitute from Jericho, the first saint of Canaan, also foretold the country while dealing with the high commanders of that country, and knew that the end was near. At this time, the chosen people of Israel sent two spies to conquer Jericho to investigate internal affairs. They entered the house of the prostitute Rahab and begged for refuge.

Second, he hid the spies and received the covenant.

Rahab hid the two spies who had entered her house in three towers on the roof. The spies came to them, but they had already fled, so if you follow them quickly, they would catch them. The spies escaped the crisis and promised that they would save him and his family when Israel came in. Then the spies jumped out of the window and ran out of the city. .

In the Battle of Angam, Gyeongsangbuk-do, when I was on June 25, 700 people died and 200 people remained after fighting for one day. After starving for three days and eating only fruit, we went to a small town and called the chief to cook for us. He arranged us in three places to cook, and then the chief went secretly and brought 400 people with us. Then they all died, and there were four left.

At that time, I ran into a small house and hid in the kitchen corner of that house, when the People's Army came and shouted, "The Korean military is here, so give it to me?" The child (Gong Jae-ho) in the house said, "It's hard to come in here, like Rahab, a gisaeng. But I just ran over there." When the People's Army left the house, the child gave him a hanbok, wore the clothes, and had the experience of living in front of the People's Army, driving an evacuation bag and cattle. I have never been able to forget the gratitude of that child for the rest of my life.

It was the same with Rahab the prostitute.

Those who hide their chosen people and take care of God's people have special grace, protection, and remembrance of the Lord.

A long time ago, Julian was a rare delinquent in the world who had a notoriety of being evil from a young age and killed even his parents after committing all kinds of atrocities. After deciding that I will do something that is impossible to do," he served as a sailor for the rest of his life as a boatman who transports people from rivers to boats.

One day, in the middle of a blizzard night, I was a beggar when I rowed a boat to hear the call to save people. Take it to the boat and bring it home and feed it. We were sleeping together on the same bed, and when I looked closely, I saw that they were lepers. He was disgusting and creepy, but thinking about the life of Jesus, he held him tightly in his arms and slept with him. When he woke up in the morning, he was the glorious Jesus. But suddenly he did not see him, and under the blanket, he saw a verse of the Bible, which says in Matthew 25:40, “Truly I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these my brothers, you did it for me.

The way for the prostitute Rahab to hide the spies of the chosen people was for herself and her family to live.

Third, the red line is a symbol of the blood of Jesus.

Rahab told the spies to make a covenant and a true mark to save our family, since I have spared you (Joshua 2:13).

At this time, the sign of the covenant was as follows.

① Don't divulge this.

② Put a red string on the window

③ The family must be together

④ Do not leave the house

This red line is a model of the cross.

The covenant of Jesus on the cross is the sign of salvation in life. According to Joshua's instructions, Israel surrounded the city and the seven priests blew the seven trumpets and carried the ark once a day for seven days, and rotated seven times on the seventh day. While waiting, he was saved first and gave birth to Boaz through Salmon and received the blessing of ascending to the genealogy of Jesus.

3. This is Ruth (Ruth 1:15-18).

At the end of the period of the Judges, Elimelech and Naomi had a famine in their hometown of Bethlehem, and they took their two sons, Marlon and Kirion, and lived in Moab for 10 years.

First, Ruth was devoted to her mother-in-law.

Having lost her husband and two sons, Naomi decided to return to her hometown of Bethlehem, summoned her two daughters-in-law and asked each other to return to their homes and remarry. He was filial through all kinds of suffering (Ruth 1:17).

Second, Ruth finally received God's blessing.

When she lost her self, did not hesitate to suffer, and served her mother-in-law's God without complaint and was filial, God blessed Rune with abundant food to eat, gave her a house to live in, and gave her a husband.

It is an event that is not understood by modern people, but God has blessed such a woman.

Once upon a time, a king was passing by wearing civilian clothes to check the affairs of the people. In a house, the old man was crying, the sangju was singing, and the middle (middle) was dancing. I found out that the old man was the father-in-law and the sangju. is the son and the middle daughter-in-law, but on my father-in-law's birthday, the family was so poor, the daughter-in-law cut off her hair and sold it to make a birthday table. There was. After the king heard these words, he went into the palace and called them and gave them a great filial piety. Ruth's filial piety is more than that.

Third, Ruth eventually became David's great-grandmother.

Ruth, who was introduced to Boaz through her mother-in-law Naomi, obeyed her mother's request and became Boaz's wife and took good care of her mother-in-law. After that, Obed gave birth to Jesse, and Jesse gave birth to David, so Rune became the great-grandmother of Dawon. So Ruth was blessed to be the third woman in Jesus' genealogy.

Conclusion Let me conclude.

There are three Gentile women in Jesus' genealogy.

1. A woman named Tamar,

2. A woman named Rahab, a prostitute,

3. This is filial piety Ruth.

Through the lineage of Jesus, the Lord is showing that He is the Savior of all mankind. *
