Title: Through Him (Colossians 03:15-17)
Content In Paul's epistles, the words to take off and put on appear frequently.
Taking off and putting on clothes is only possible in the human world. The act of putting on and taking off does not exist in the animal world. There are molts and molts, but they do not take off or wear clothes like humans.
According to Genesis 3:21, God gave Adam and Eve clothes made of leather. So, this event explains that from Genesis, God has been involved in man's taking off and putting on clothes.
In the case of Paul, he said, “Put off the old self of the decaying old habits” and “put on the new man, which after God was created in righteousness and holiness of truth” in Ephesians 4:22-23.
The act of taking off and putting on as the Bible dictates is not just a lesson about wearing clothes.
As pointed out earlier, the development of taking off clothes is a cultural privilege that only humans have enjoyed, but the problem of taking off clothes in the Bible is a spiritual event.
In other words, put off the clothes of your soul that are stained with sin and put on Jesus as if you were clothed with Jesus.
That's what Paul said, [put on the new man] and [put on the new man].
1. What are we going to take off?
Ephesians 4:22 says, “Put off the old self, which is corrupt according to the lusts of temptation.”
The old person here refers to the unregenerate state.
Among the terms of childbirth when a woman gives birth, there is a term called [miscarriage] [difficult childbirth] [stillbirth] [easy childbirth].
A miscarriage is caused by a physical or external shock or mental action received by a pregnant woman during pregnancy.
Difficulty in childbirth is when a pregnant woman or a baby suffers because the delivery process does not go smoothly.
A stillbirth is literally the death of a baby that is being born. And easy delivery refers to the smooth birth of a new life through a process of pain and tension.
It is similar for Christians to be born again spiritually.
There are people who pretend to believe and die without being born. It's like a legacy.
Believe it or not, there are people who harass others, confuses the church, and manages to live a life of faith by living in pain themselves. Such a person is like a difficult child.
Believe it or not, there are people who harass others, confuses the church, and manages to live a life of faith by living in pain themselves. Such a person is like a difficult child.
Like Judas Iscariot, there are people who follow Jesus, receive office, and attend meetings. But Jesus is not in his heart. So the soul eventually perishes. Such a person is like a stillborn.
However, there are those who endure trials and trials well, endure hardships because of Christ and the church, and finally enter the kingdom of glory. Such a person is a [easy childbirth] person.
Those who attend church and pretend to be members of the church but are not born again become believers in miscarriage, difficult childbirth, or stillbirth.
That's why Paul said to put off the old man.
You should pay attention to the words [Take them off]. It is not simply [take off]. It means [take it off]. In other words, it should be disposed of because it has no recyclable value.
Ephesians 4:22 says that they are perishable. Rotting things need to be cut out and operated for new flesh to sprout. If you leave it as it is because it is a waste or regret, your life will be in danger.
What was my old man like? It is greedy, debauchery, envy, jealousy, sexual immorality, stealing, slander, strife, and stubbornness. We need to get rid of those things quickly.
Judas Iscariot also had an opportunity to undress. But he persisted and ended in a disastrous end.
Colossians 3:5 says, “Therefore, put to death your members that are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, lust, lust, and covetousness.” In 3:6, it says, “For these things the wrath of God is coming.”
Let's take off the rags we put on so far quickly. Let's get rid of the germs in the rags before they rot all over my body
2. What to wear
Ephesians 4:24 says, “Put on the new man” and Colossians 3:17 says, “Put on him.”
When you take off your old, dirty clothes, you become naked. Walking the streets naked would be a nudist or a delirium.
If you take it off, you have to wear something else. You must not put back on what you took off. Paul said, “Put on the new man, and put on him.”
A man went to work one day wearing new underwear, a shirt, a tie, a belt, a suit, and even socks in order to heal his bad heart. I felt refreshed and my footsteps were light. And if that's how it felt, I thought I'd be able to avoid getting angry or nervous. I went up in the elevator and met a person who had been hidden for three months after borrowing 1 million won. Wouldn't that person's feelings be shaken by the new clothes that came out in the morning?
Just changing clothes is meaningless. You have to be a new person.
The new person here means to be born again, to have the heart of Jesus.
And to have the power of Jesus means to have the power that Jesus gives.
With the development of plastic medicine, plastic surgery of all parts of the body has become possible. It is said that double eyelid surgery is possible, the nose can be raised and lowered, and the size of the chest can be adjusted at will.
However, there are many things that cannot be molded. You can't make a small stature 10cm taller. A person's personality or personality cannot be corrected by plastic surgery.
The correction and correction of the human soul is possible only through Jesus Christ.
When a nation has the help of Jesus, it becomes a developed nation.
When the church has the help of Jesus, it becomes a gracious church.
A family becomes a peaceful family when it comes to Jesus.
In China, there is a treatment called qigong technique. The idea is that 220 volts of electricity flows through one's body, and then the hand that is flowing through that current is used to heal other people. When you hold a light bulb in a live hand, it lights up. Every time I touched my hand and the nape of my neck with a current flowing hand, I could feel a strong electric shock.
To have the power of Jesus means to receive the power of Jesus. It means that I receive the power of Jesus and put on the power of Jesus as if I was changing clothes as if an electric current was flowing through my body.
I have no strength, but through Jesus, I will become a strong person. I am useless, but when I put on Jesus, I become useful and beautiful.
No need to hesitate and procrastinate. We need to put off our rags right now and rely on Jesus.
3. What is the result after we gain strength from him 1) The peace of Christ will rule our hearts (15).
When we become a new person through Jesus, peace comes into our lives. And that peace is not something you get in the world. The world's peace depends on mood and conditions. Its length is also short. And people can take it away.
However, the peace that the Lord gives cannot be controlled by mood or conditions. The road is also eternal. And neither man nor the devil can take it away.
It is said that Jimmy Carter, the former president of the United States, said the following one day after resigning from the presidency and returning to his hometown. “It was rewarding and a lot of work during my tenure as president. And there were many painful things. However, returning to my hometown and meeting the children at Sunday School and worshiping was truly peace and comfort.” Peace is the greatest gift among the blessings that believers in Jesus receive.
2) Be grateful (15).
There are several differences between a general company and a church, but one of them is terminology. The church often uses uncommon terms such as grace, gratitude, love, and faith. In particular, [thanks] is a Christian life term. If you are truly born again and are a Christian through Jesus, you should be overflowing with gratitude.
There are three ways to be grateful.
First, you should always have a grateful heart.
Second, it must be expressed in words.
Third, it must be marked as a substance.
3) You will live a spiritual life.
Verses 16-17 explain the spiritual life of a Christian as follows:
First, the word is abundant. In other words, the soul is not hungry because the Word is plentiful. When you are hungry, you are noisy and complaining, but when you are full, all your complaints are silenced and you work hard. So, if you are a person who is annoyed with your religious life and complains about your church life, it would be unmistakable to diagnose [I am hungry because I have not eaten properly].
The second is to sing a spiritual song. A hymn is a tuneful confession of faith that unites thanksgiving, confession, and worship. People who are seriously ill or exhausted are quiet.
People who sing hymns and get caught up in other thoughts while singing have problems with their spiritual health. With the help of Jesus, the size of the hymns and attitudes change.
Third, we do everything in the name of Jesus. It means that we pray in the name of Jesus, sing praises to Jesus, and serve in the name of Jesus. Putting on Jesus hides me and reveals Jesus. My dirty and ugly figure is wrapped in Jesus and Jesus appears. So, naturally, the name of Jesus can only be revealed. The important thing is not to throw back the clothes and power of Jesus that I was wearing.
In Psalm 31:10, the psalmist says, “My strength is weak because of my iniquities, and my bones fail.”
Samson was a man who received strength from God. However, he was seduced by Delilah, a Philistine woman, and ruined his body and soul by tint. His power was gone and he was led like a dog.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait in the Lord will find new strength.” Even in the spiritual world, the strong will survive, and the weak will become the devil's food.
If you become a new person through Jesus, you will become a proud winner in the spiritual world.
Let's win through Jesus.
