This is the story of Jesus going up to Jerusalem with his disciples when he came to Jericho and healed Bartimaeus, a beggar who was blind by the roadside. We shall examine how the blind beggar Bartimaeus opened his eyes and the character of his behavior.
.
1. When the Lord passed by, we cried out for salvation
.
It is said that there were some beggars like this on the way through Jericho. What is important is what this Bartimaeus had heard about Jesus that enabled him to capture and call the moment Jesus was passing by. There is no way to guess from the content, just note that he cried out loudly not to miss this opportunity.

2 Corinthians 6:2 ‘.. behold now is the acceptable time, behold now is the day of salvation’, Revelation 2:21 ‘..opportunity for repentance..’
Text Mark 10:47 “When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he cried out and said, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.”

In the words of the Bible, calling Jesus the Son of David is intended to be the Messiah (Matthew 21:15-16). It seems that he wanted to believe in Jesus as the Messiah, although he could not see it with his own eyes, but heard with his ears. The cry was so loud that perhaps even the disciples rebuked them and told them to be quiet. At that time, society was a common sentiment toward beggars with apathy and beggars.
Still, Mark 10:48 “Many rebuked me, saying, ‘Be quiet,’ but he cried even louder, saying, “Son of David, have mercy on me.”
.
The reason we earnestly seek when we pray is probably because we have a strong desire to be saved. That may be the reason for persistent prayer.
That was the center of Jacob's prayer. Genesis 32:26 And he said, "The day is dawning, so let me go." Jacob said, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."
.
2. That he threw away his outer garment and ran away when called.
.
Jesus heard his cry and said to call on him. When the disciple called Bartimaeus, Mark 10:50 said, “The blind man threw away his cloak and jumped up and came to Jesus.” It is presumed that the outer garment was a rag-like cloak that was always spread in front of the body in order to be friendly.
When throwing away your outer garment, the word apovallo (
