Title: To Follow Jesus / Luke 9:51-62

Contents

1. Outline of the text

Jesus' companions on their way to Jerusalem were scorned in Samaria. It was quite a shocking event for the disciples. But the Lord told us what difficulties God's people would face on this earth. 51-56 is the introductory subcase to 57-62.

Introduction

1. Moses had to pay a high price to follow Israel. Although he is a man of misfortune who was born in an unhappy time, the circumstances of the times provided the fate that led him to meet an Egyptian princess. Moreover, he was on the verge of fortune to succeed the throne.

2. However, he threw off all his glory like a rag in the face of God's call and nostalgia for his people. He paid a high price for giving up all the conditions guaranteed to him.

3. No matter what a person does, a corresponding price must be paid. There is a price we must pay to become children of God, who did not know God.

I. We must give up the glory of the world (51-56).

A. Something very disappointing happened to the disciples.

1. Sent to the village of Samaria to find a room.

2. However, it was politely rejected.

3. It was very shocking for the disciples.

4. James and John, who have strong feelings of sympathy, wanted to punish them by using their power.

5. Of course, because of Jesus, they thought they would be welcomed, but the situation was not.

B. We have a heavenly reward.

1. In order to follow Esu, we must sometimes be prepared for unwanted persecution. It was not that they couldn't get a room because they didn't have a room, but it was a case of unintentional damage due to the feeling that they couldn't give it to anyone.

2. These are things that we can experience as much as we want in our lives (specific examples).

3. However, it is important how we should react when we are faced with such an injustice.

4. Judging from the fact that some of the disciples said they would put down the fire, it seems that they also experienced power in their own way. In other words, he intends to use it to avenge the rights given to him in his position.

5. Many people try to use the rights they have been given, not for their neighbors, but for themselves. How do I look now?

6. Rather than words or actions of cursing, resentment, or complaining from our mouths, we must use the language of forgiveness, blessing, and understanding.

II. We must give up the peace of the body.

A. Inja has no home to rest.

1. He volunteered to go anywhere with Jesus. But the Lord refused. Because he knew his heart.

2. All the twelve disciples were the people the Lord called and followed them. That is, the disciples were chosen, not volunteered.

3. The important thing is that because a wrong idea was set in the hearts of the disciples, the Lord wanted to correct it.

B. Saints should wish for spiritual peace.

1. The conditional attitude that what will happen if we believe in Jesus is not appropriate.

2. However, those who believe in Jesus do not necessarily have to become poor. It is not that a business that was successful because of Jesus is not ruined. It's not like you're suddenly expelled from your job because of Jesus.

3. Joseph's owner was blessed with a prosperous family because of him.

4. However, in order to possess the spiritual world, one must give up the comfort of the body.

III. We must love the Lord more than the things of the world (59-60).

A. Let the dead bury the dead.

1. It was a reasonable thought to first arrange the affairs of the world and then follow the Lord.

2. But the Lord was not pleased with calculating judgment. We did not know the principle that when we first seek his kingdom and righteousness, the rest will be solved naturally.

3. This is a rebuke to his erroneous center of evading his duties not out of genuine concern for his parents, but by plausible reasons.

B. Let's do God's work first.

1. Life priorities are related to a person's success. what are my priorities

2. Don't sell your heart for plausible reasons.

IV. Only look forward (61-62).

A. Please ask permission first.

1. Opportunities are given to those who wait. But it is not given to those who procrastinate. God is with those who know the opportunity.

2.Once he got his hands on the plow, the situation was not serious enough to have to get permission now. It is just a wrong decision to take off one's burden.

3. Only those who put all their heart and soul into becoming a servant of God.

B. Let's not look back.

1. Think of Lot's wife, who never forgot her back.

2. Ananias and Sapphira could not completely abandon the old things that should be thrown away.

3. Paul threw away everything in the past like a rag.

4. Moses lavishly relinquished the prince's privileges.

conclusion

1. To follow Jesus, you must experience change.

2. Because Moses was captured by God, he gave up all glory, but his will did not give up the glory of Egypt.

3. Get to know Jesus. Let's look to Jesus. Let's listen to Jesus. And let's go completely crazy about Jesus.

4. People are basically crazy about something.

5. Some people are crazy about love, some people are crazy about gambling, and some people are crazy about money. Let's go crazy with Jesus. Here is the way of life.
