Title: To Follow Jesus / Luke 9:57-62
Contents
Introduction;
1. Most of today's Christians want to follow the Lord for nothing.
2. However, the Bible says that the way to follow the Lord is the way of “self-denial” and the way of the cross.
say
3. Dr. M. R. Dihan said, “It costs nothing to come to Christ, but to follow him.
And you have to pay everything to serve."
4. In the text, the Lord also teaches that there must be a price to be paid for following the Lord.
is cheering
#Through today's Word, what is the price to be paid to follow the Lord?
I want to share and think about it.
I. To follow Jesus, we must be prepared for suffering (57-58).
A. A man wanted (confessed) to follow Jesus.
1. According to Matthew 18:9, this man was a scribe.
2. Most of the scribes at that time rejected and ignored Jesus.
3. However, unlike the other scribes, this scribe had no desire to follow Jesus.
It was great.
4. To him, the life of Jesus and his disciples seemed beautiful and wonderful.
5. It was thought that if you follow Jesus, you will be loved, respected, and served.
6. Seeing only the splendid glory that appeared on the outside, he confessed that he would follow Jesus.
7. Without thinking about the suffering hidden behind and the cost to follow the Lord,
was determined to follow.
To him, Jesus said,
B. He taught me the harsh reality (58).
“Foxes have dens, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
1. Even trivial foxes have burrows, and birds of the air have nests.
2. But Jesus was so poor that he did not have a single room to lay his head in.
3. Also, Jesus' life was so busy that he did not even have time to eat.
4. He was not able to sleep because he served the sheep late at night and prayed early in the morning.
5. Even now, Jesus is going to Jerusalem where the cross awaits to fulfill God’s will.
you are going up
6.Jesus was a scribe who wanted to follow Jesus by seeing only the splendid glory that appeared.
By reminding us of this cruel reality, we can follow Jesus without being prepared for hardship.
told me that you can't.
C. The life of following Jesus requires suffering and devotion.
1. The future is not guaranteed.
2. There may be some of us who ideally view the life of a pastor or missionary.
*There are also those who see the life of a missionary as ideal and want to become a missionary.
3. Of course, the life of following the Lord is beautiful (the life of a pastor or missionary is also beautiful).
4. But this comes with great sacrifice and pain.
5. We must prepare ourselves for these sacrifices and pains and follow Jesus.
6. When we are prepared for this sacrifice and pain and follow the Lord, our Lord will grant us the crown of life.
give
;;To follow the Lord well, we must be prepared for suffering.
In order to
II. The preaching of the gospel of the kingdom should be given the highest priority (59-60).
A.Jesus urged another man, "Follow me."
1. Jesus doesn't ask anyone to follow me.
2. However, he received a wonderful invitation to become a disciple of Jesus.
3. Jesus called him and wanted to use him in the gospel ministry.
But what did he answer to Jesus' request?
“Let me go first and bury my father.” (59)
B. This man said that he would follow the Lord after his father was buried.
1. From a human point of view, this request seems like a natural request.
2. Funerals are the 3rd generation of Inryunji ambassadors along with birth and marriage.
But Jesus
C. First, he told us to participate in the work of the kingdom of God. (60)
1. This statement is easy to misunderstand from an ethical point of view.
2. However, this does not mean that you should stop trading your father and follow Jesus.
3. It means that nothing in this world can take precedence over the things of the kingdom of God.
4. The more urgent and important task than burying the dead is the spiritually dead.
It is to spread the gospel to people.
D. It seems that we have many things to do before we follow the Lord.
1. Serving elderly parents.
2. Money, fame, power, etc.
3. However, after fulfilling these human dreams, you can never follow the Lord.
4. Because our future is uncertain.
5. That is why we give the highest priority to preaching the gospel above anything else in the world.
should go
[Gyeonggyeong-gu];; In order to follow the Lord well, we must be prepared for any hardships.
My enemy must give up on his dreams and give the highest priority only to preaching the gospel.
III. You must look forward and move forward (61-62).
A. A man said goodbye to his family and then asked to follow Jesus (61).
"Lord! I will follow you. But first allow me to say goodbye to my family."
1. This person will follow the Lord, but after saying goodbye to his family for the last time
A proviso to follow was attached.
2. This request seems too natural for a human being.
[Pause]; But what did Jesus say to him? 61
“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
B. A person with a plow in his hand must look forward and move forward.
1. If the person holding the plow often looks back, he cannot make a goal straight away.
is a very important lesson)
2. You must only look ahead and move forward.
3. Cut off the human level of family, look only at Jesus and learn the work of God
have to bear
4. In some ways, it seems too ruthless and cruel.
(*Chinese missionary: the story of Isobel Kuhn)
C. There are many things that make us look back.
1. Elderly parents, dear wife and children-----
2. Dear friends, regrets about the world-----
3. But we have already plowed our hands.
= Therefore, resolutely cut off all these lusts and look forward, looking only at Jesus.
have to move forward
conclusion
1. Now we have already decided to follow the Lord.
2. To follow this Jesus well
* Be prepared for any hardship.
* Breaking my cute dream and giving the highest priority to only spreading the gospel of God
should be left
* We must cut off the remaining lingering feelings of family and the world and move forward looking only forward.
