Title: Train Your Godliness

Contents

Chan 88 My true longing

The reason Christians are reviled by the world is because they lack a life of godliness. The monks at the temple also practice self-control and cultivating the Way for the training of godliness. We are people who have already mastered the Tao. The way is the way of Jehovah, the covenant with blood, the way of life, my way, the way of the cross, the way of faith, the gospel of the kingdom, the way of believing, the way of Christ. As Christianity focuses on evangelism and seeks only grace, training in godliness is actually insufficient. The word godliness appears 57 times in the Bible. Then what is godliness?

1. Dictionary etymology

□ Respect (敬虔) Respect; Seong-Gun; - A heart of sincere respect. It means to honor and serve God by dedicating body and mind to God.

□ Similar to holy. Holiness is the state of being set apart, holy, free from filth and error. Also, the word holy was used only in relation to God. A godly life is also called holy.

2. Background

'A poem of David, a song tuned to the strings as a warrant.' The word 'warrant' here literally means 'manager or supervisor', meaning the conductor or canor of a choir, and is mentioned 55 times throughout the psalms (Kay). It is not an exaggeration to say that this psalm is a prayer for the evening hours, paired with Psalm 3, nicknamed 'Morning Prayer'. It has the same form-short verse, short cod lyric form except for the absence of lyric (Conder, PurKiser).

It is more reasonable to view the text as a poem written by David, like Psalm 3, when he was in need of Absalom's rebellion to rebuke them for their futility of plotting evil and to emphasize the fact that Jehovah hears his prayers (see Psalm 3). Matthew Henry, Yunsun Park).

3. What is David's piety?

I pray, O God of my righteousness, answer me when I call. I pray that you have mercy on me and hear my prayer, for you have been generous to me in my troubles.

Not all prayers are answered. In Matthew 23, the prayers of the Pharisees and tax collectors were strongly pointed out by Jesus as hypocrites and vipers. Then, how should we live a godly life when we live our faith?

1) He hears godly prayers. (1-3)

Verse 1: Prayer - When I call, answer me; in my troubles you have been gracious to me; have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

Verse 2: How long, mortals, shall I disgrace my glory (God), love vanity, and seek deceit (a lie)?

Verse 3: Know that the LORD has chosen (the godly) for himself.

When I call, the LORD will hear.

(Help of the godly)

Psalm 32:6 Because of this, all who are devout should take the opportunity to meet you, and pray to you; verily, even if the flood overflows, it will not reach them.

John 9:31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but to those who are godly and do His will.

In David's psalm, God hears the prayers of the godly. Of course, He hears even when sinners repent and weep. However, the life of a sinner whose sins are forgiven through repentance is the life of a godly person.

A heart of sincere respect. When we dedicate our body and mind to God and live a life of honor and service, God responds. Therefore, when our lives are always lived with a sincere heart, a heart that loves God, and a heart that honors God, He hears our prayers well. I bless you all who walk with the Lord in such a godly prayer.

2) It is a crime free life. (4-6)

Psalm 4:4 Tremble and do not sin; lie down, speak in your heart, and be still (Selah).

Psalm 4:5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and trust in the LORD.

Psalm 4:6 Many say, “Who is it that will show us good? Lift up your face, O LORD, and let it shine upon us.”

Godliness is a life free from crime. Religion is being careful with words. Godliness is offering righteous sacrifices. Godliness is trusting in the Lord.

1 Timothy 4:7 Let go of false and false myths and practice only godliness

1 Timothy 4:8 Physical exercise is of little benefit, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise in this life and in the life to come.

1 Timothy 4:9 Faithful, this saying is deserving of all men.

1 Timothy 4:10 To this end we labor and exert ourselves, because we put our hope in the living God, the Savior of all people, especially those who believe.

1 Timothy 4:11 You command these things and teach them.

□ For godliness, we must fear God's judgment. To live with a heart trembling at the wrath of God It is to offer a sacrifice (worship) of living a life of righteousness.

Romans 12:1 Therefore, brethren, I beseech you by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, which is good and acceptable and perfect.

□ It is a life of being careful about words and a life of protecting oneself in the world.

James 1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and does not bridle his tongue and deceives his heart, this man's religion is in vain.

Jude 1:15 This was that he might judge all men, and condemn them for all their ungodly deeds, and for every harsh word that ungodly sinners spoke against the Lord.

James 1:27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Therefore, it is necessary to live a life devoted to training to be careful with words, training to live a righteous life as worship, and training to protect oneself in the world. In this case, it is godliness without crime I bless you to become a saint who lives this kind of life.

3. The joy you put in my heart is godliness.

Now the wicked speak words that are ridiculing David.

Psalm 4:6 Many say, “Who is it that will show us good? Lift up your face, O LORD, and let it shine upon us.”

But David refutes the words of this wicked man.

Psalm 4:7 You have put more joy in my heart than when their grain and new wine abound.

Psalm 4:8 I will lie down in peace, and I will sleep; it is the LORD who makes me dwell in safety.

□ Look at the lives of the wicked, there is an abundance of their grain and new wine. But I confess that the joy of loving God, the joy you have placed in my heart, is greater than the abundance of their material, money, grain, and new wine.

Because the Lord is my fortress and my shield, so I can lie down and sleep in peace. Not only that, but it keeps me safe.

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters.

Psalm 23:3 He refreshes my soul and leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Psalm 23:4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff comfort me.

Psalm 23:5 You have set a table for me in the sight of my enemies; you have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Psalm 23:6 Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

The goal of the world is material. We rejoice when we have a lot of money, but we rejoice and rejoice because there is a God who gives us money and gives us grain and new wine. so that

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not lack.

<Conclusion>

1) He listens when you are reverent. (1-3)2) It is a life free from crime. (4-6)3. The joy you put in my heart is godliness.

Romans 1:18 The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold back the truth in unrighteousness.
