Title: Transparency of the heart / Matthew 5:8
Content Transparency of the heart / Matthew 5:8
A gem among gems is a diamond. The value of a diamond is evaluated with four ‘Cs’. Clarity Weight (Carat) Color (Cut).
People can evaluate it similarly. First, how clear and pure the heart is. Second, how much weight do you have? Third, what are your values? Finally, how well it is polished.
Today's text says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." A person with a pure heart is as precious as a diamond.
What does it mean to be pure in heart? The word “pure in heart” has two meanings.
The first means to be purified and free from blemishes. Not all gold is the same. 100% pure gold, 14K or 18K. Pure gold with no impurities or other minerals has a higher value. As such, a pure heart refers to the purity of the heart based on ethics or moral maturity.
The second means that there is nothing to hide, so it is not double. It refers to frankness in which one's state of mind is hidden, manipulated, or exposed as it is.
In John 8, the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery and set her before Jesus. He must have been almost naked because he had been caught in adultery. The scribes and Pharisees urge Jesus' judgment, saying that it was written in the Mosaic Law that such women should be stoned. Jesus said, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at him.” As a result, people received “remorse of conscience,” and everyone, from adults to young people, withdrew, leaving only Jesus and women.
The scribes and Pharisees brought the adulterous woman away on the basis of their relative morals and ethics. But none of those who relied on relative cleanliness were left, only the adulterous woman. Those who come out as they are in the presence of God in hope of His disposition and forgiveness can meet God and live a life of true fellowship with God. A bare heart, an honest heart as it is, can better meet God.
God wants us to come out the way we are, the way we are broken, the way we fall, and the way we fail. We can meet God only when we present our reality as it is, when it is as it is.
