Title: True Treasure/Mark 10:17-31
Contents True Treasure/Mark 10:17~31
"...Many are the first who will be last, and the last will be first" (Mark 10:17-31).
An absurd incident occurred when the first national treasure, Sungnyemun, was set on fire because of money. Even in the text of the Bible, there is a story of a man who made an irreversible mistake because of his wealth. This person possesses the money, fame, and youth that the world desires. At this level, it is usually impossible to enjoy life, but this person had a zeal for eternal life.
As in verse 17 of the text, he ran to Jesus to receive eternal life and knelt before Jesus. However, this young man actually heard from Jesus how to receive eternal life, but did not receive eternal life. Because they thought the cost of gaining eternal life was too high. He wanted eternal life, but he wanted to buy eternal life as long as his self-esteem was not damaged and his wealth was not depleted.
What did this young man ask the Lord? “Good teacher, what must I do to gain eternal life?” Here, he thought 'I', that is, that he could do it on his own, and asked how. He did not acknowledge his incompetence and his sinfulness, and did not give up the riches of the earth. In the end, he ended up staying with the person he was about to be saved. Because he himself knew this decision was foolish, he turned his back on Jesus with sorrow and sorrow.
The problem is that this young man and we are very similar. In verses 23-25, the Lord says, "It is impossible for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." So how do you get in? It cannot be done as a man, but as a God it is possible.
Here, 'rich' does not simply mean a person with a lot of money. Here, 'rich' refers to a person who lives on his own strength depending on what he has. Those who seek eternal life by their own strength ask God, but I think it is more effective to rely on God's strength and their own strength together. So, he holds the hand of God with one hand and the riches he cherishes with the other.
But in order to be saved, you must hold on to God with both hands. If you hold the rescue boat with one hand and the wreck with the other, your arm is torn. Therefore, we must hold on to God alone and let go of the things we have to give up.
