Title: True Worship / Psalm 138:1-5
Content True Worship / Psalm 138:1-5
“I will give thanks to You with all my heart, and I will praise You before the gods; I will worship toward Your temple, and I will give thanks to Your name for your kindness and faithfulness” (Psalm 138:1-5).
In today's text Psalm 138:1, the psalmist confessed, "I will give thanks to you with all my heart; I will praise you before the gods." Worship is giving thanks to God. Worship begins with giving thanks to God. It is important to have a grateful heart for God. Be grateful, but give thanks with all your heart. Authenticity is important. Thank you very much.
What should I be thankful for? In Psalm 136:1, the writer says, "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his lovingkindness endures forever." We should be thankful for God's goodness and mercy. Through God's love we are forgiven of our sins. I became a child of God. I have enjoyed the blessing of eternal life. True worship is to be truly grateful for that love.
The word worship means to worship. Worship is to humble oneself before God in humility. God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. A humble heart is a godly heart. God is holy. Worship is looking to the holy God. Therefore, worship is important.
Worship is also rejoicing before God. Christians should rejoice in God. Isaiah 41:16 says, “You will rejoice in the LORD, and you will boast in the Holy One of Israel.” Faith is rejoicing through Jesus.
Jesus said, "I give this to you, that my joy may be in you and your joy may be full" (John 15:11). God has made us worshipers. Now, we must offer God-centered worship, not people-centered worship. To do that, we must approach God with thanksgiving. You must truly worship God. I shouldn't be obsessed with my mood or environmental conditions. I hope you will worship God in spirit and truth while rejoicing in God.
