Title: True Worship/John 4:19-26
Contents True Worship/John 4:19-26
“… the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem… ” (John 4:19-26)
In the text, the Lord is teaching the Samaritan woman about worship. Verses 23 and 24 tell us to worship in spirit and truth. 'God is a Spirit', so worship will only take place when the Spirit of God meets our spirit.
But when does the Holy Spirit guide us? The Holy Spirit helps us when we pray. Therefore, we must pray for worship. Then the Holy Spirit will lead our spirit to Jesus. As the saying goes, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.' Therefore, a person who comes to worship but does not believe in Jesus is not a true worshiper. I must accept Jesus Christ as my Savior.
To 'worship in truth' means to worship with sincerity. The object of worship is God. And the purpose of worship is always to glorify God. If the purpose of worship is to truly glorify God, then every part of our lives should be worthy in God's sight.
Sunday Worship is a part of the worship we offer in our weekly life. We must meet God every day, live according to God's will, and offer the 'worship of life'. And as the climax of this worship service, all members of the church gather together to have a 'Sunday Worship'. So, if the life of the week goes wrong, the climax of the Sunday worship becomes impossible. True worship comes from real life.
When we worship in spirit and truth, amazing changes occur in our lives. After meeting God, there is a wonderful joy. When the Samaritan woman met Jesus, she left her water jar and ran into the town, crying out that the Messiah had come. He was so happy that he forgot about himself. This is the joy of heaven. In fact, the moment of worship is the moment that most resembles heaven. A person who is tired of worship time is not yet ready to go to heaven. Those who sincerely worship will experience heaven during worship. And that person will enjoy the blessings of heaven on this earth.
