Title: Trust in God / Psalm 3:3-6

Content Trust in God / Psalm 3:3-6

Key Verse: “O LORD, you are my shield and my glory… Thousands of people try to surround me, but I will not be afraid.”

Word: The background of this text is the scene where David's son Absalom rebelled and tried to take his father's throne and life, but David fled to the Mount of Olives barefoot. Although David mourned, he knew that all of this was the result of his own sins (2 Samuel 12:10-11). Therefore, he accepts hardships with courage and trusts in God.

First, David's sorrow and suffering (verses 1-2)

It can be seen from the fact that David had many enemies that the number of people is not the guarantee of the truth. The road that many people take is a wide road, but that road is the road of death. However, the path of faith that follows God is the path of life, even if it is a narrow path.

Second, David's strong confession of faith (verse 3)

The term ‘selah’ appears 70 times in David’s psalms. This is 'to take a break'. We too should pause for a moment and think about whether or not it is enough to bring us down when hardships, accusations, fierce attacks, feelings of despair, and setbacks come upon us. And we must remember the God we have experienced so far. That God is ‘the one who lifts up my shield and my glory and my head’. This conviction makes him, like David, confident in God's protection, grace, and salvation.

Third, David's prayer (verse 4)

David says, “with his voice he cried out to the Lord.” When suffering comes to us because of our sins, we must repent and weep like David. And we must pray. Just as the disciples wake up Jesus from sleeping in a storm, he shouts, “Rise up, O Lord” (verse 7), “Save me, O my God” (verse 7) with earnestness that only Jehovah can deliver them from the danger and sorrow they are facing You must pray.

Fourth, the answer (verse 4)

God heard the prayer of David's tears. God hears weeping. Therefore, the sincere and sincere mourning prayer will experience God's prompt answer. God's answer will help you find peace. Therefore, we must not stop praying for the peace and courage of the Lord in the midst of the wrath of the world.

Prayer: If my suffering is due to my sins, I repent. I trust in God even when it is difficult for me to be vaguely faced. But grant me peace and courage so that fear and anxiety cannot swallow me up. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
