Title: Two families (Gen. 05:1-5)
Content All human beings on this earth are created by one God, and although they are descendants of one Adam and Eve physically, their descendants are not all the same. Are there any ancestors of the righteous who believe in God and live a good life? On the other hand, there are ancestors of wicked people who distrust God and lead an evil life.
All human beings, regardless of who they are, are born to their ancestors, and when the time comes, what kind of ancestors should they become?
1. Cain's descendants (Genesis 4:16-24) After Cain offered an erroneous sacrifice to God and even killed his brother Abel, his unrepentant sin continued to aggravate the bad influence not only on Cain's day but also on all his descendants. 1) Visible influence Although Cain was cursed for his crime, it appeared that he was not affected visually. (Genesis 4:17) He slept with his wife, and he conceived and gave birth to Enoch. As it is said that Cain built a city and named it Enoch after his son, his descendants prospered and built a city in the land of Nod, east of Eden, and lived in a highly civilized society.
Even though such a fact is God's grace that is patient with sinners, the problem is that proud humans become more arrogant without realizing the grace that God does not punish immediately and the patience of the way.
As a result, the society has become a society where violence and murder are rampant along with the brutality of ruthlessly killing a weak boy for the lewdness of polygamy and even a small wound.
2. Descendants of Seth (Genesis 5:6-31) Unlike Cain, Abel did not receive any visible blessings, despite offering the sacrifice of faith that was pleasing to God, but he was stoned to death and wretchedly killed.
In spite of Abel's death (Genesis 4:25), Adam slept with his wife again, and he gave birth to a son and named him Seth, because God has given me another seed in place of Abel, which Cain killed. God gave Seth instead of Abel to become the father of faith.
If everything had ended with Abel's death, only Cain's atheistic culture would have covered the whole world (Genesis 4:26). Seth also had a son and named him Enosh. As the saying goes, “Through Seth, the descendants of faith who called on the name of God began to multiply as they received God’s blessing.1) Descendants who were fruitful and prosperous After Abel died and Seth was born, God is the descendant of Seth He blessed them greatly and made them live long, and became fruitful and multiplied and filled the earth. Seth begot Enosh at the age of 105 (Genesis 5:7). After begotten Enosh, he lived for eight hundred and seven years and had children.
Among the descendants of these three, Methuselah, whom we know well, lived the longest at 969 years of age and had children.
2) Descendants who walk with God The descendants of Seth, the descendants of faith who call on God's name and build altars, not only prospered physically, but also prospered spiritually.
Among them, Enoch had the same name as Enoch, a descendant of Cain, but unlike him who opposed God (Genesis 5:24) As it is said that Enoch walked with God and was not in the world because God took him. I walked with God.
Also, there were many murders among the descendants of Cain who killed each other by blood, but the descendants of Seth were different from him (Genesis 5:29), and they called their name Noah, and said, "This son will comfort us who work hard because the LORD curses the earth. As the saying goes, there was comfort in each other.
It is the same today. The culture of atheism also visibly develops science, grows the economy, and makes people's lives more convenient, but the result, like Cain's descendants, becomes more and more corruption of sexual morals, brutal violence, murder and war. It makes the world uneasy and leads to self-destruction.
Such evil powers seem to prosper temporarily, but do not be deceived by them and live a life of walking with God in faith like the descendants of Seth. Believing in the blessing that sinners' wealth is accumulated for the righteous, even if they give it to their children and grandchildren, they must become the descendants of Seth who walk by calling on God's name wherever and whenever.
