Title: Two Principles of Life
Text: Romans 8:1-11 Lord's Day(32) Aug. 9, 2009.
The two words are repeated over and over again throughout Romans 8. These are the words flesh and spirit.
The word flesh is used 9 times and the word sprite 13 times.
This shows that Paul is concerned with the body and the spirit.
Paul speaks of the human condition without Christ as the human nature of sin and weakness, helplessness and frustration with respect to the flesh.
There is a concept like the power of strong winds about the spirit, and after becoming a Christian, the fire-like power of the Spirit of God entered his life, and he said that he entered a victorious life instead of a defeated being.
Paul sets out and compares two principles of life in man in the text.
I hope this word will give you an opportunity to set the principles of our lives right.
1. A life governed by the body
(5) “He who is after the flesh thinks about the things of the flesh”
(6) “The mind set on the flesh is death”
(7) “The mind set on the flesh is hostile to God.”
(8) “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God”
The focus and center of life is himself, a life in which all that charms sinful human nature is absorbed, and what he likes is a life he likes.
The hallmark of this life is a life without Christ, dominated by lust, pride, and ambition.
Without Christ, it would be a proud life, thinking that one's own will and strength were the only law.
『When I die, I live a happy life』
There was a beautiful woman in the mother church who played the piano well.
She was a diligent housewife who was good at volunteering at church and was also good at family life as an intelligent person.
The husband is also a healthy married life,
However, they did not agree with each other and were living separately.
Words that the pastor recommends to visit
“No, even if we live together and live happily in this world, time is missing.
Can't we live together happily in harmony with each other?"
She replied, "I can."
"how?" "That's when I die." I did.
That's right!
our pride is dead,
If we die of affection and slander and live as Jesus Christ, we will have a truly happy life
Those who live a life governed by the flesh cannot enjoy true happiness.
Just stick to your instincts and the future is even darker.
Dear saints!
I bless you in the name of the Lord that you can control the instincts of the flesh.
2. A life governed by the Spirit of God
(5) “Those who follow the Spirit think about the things of the Spirit.”
(6) “The mind of the Spirit is life and peace”
(9) “If the Spirit dwells, you are a man of Christ”
(10) “If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.”
(11) “He will also give life to mortal bodies through the Spirit”
A person who lives a life governed by the Spirit of God
The Spirit of God is in your heart.
Those who are governed by the Spirit live in Christ the life that Christ fills them with.
You don't have your own thoughts and desires.
Christ is his thought and he lives with the will of Christ as his only law.
Therefore, those who are governed by the Spirit
It is to be ruled by Christ and to live a life centered on God.
『Augustine』
Augustine (354-430) was a man full of pride.
Augustine, who at a young age was respected and admired for being one of the best scholars of his time, saw nothing but himself.
Of course he was a Christian, but his pride did not go away.
Then one day Augustine was walking in the garden.
Suddenly, a voice was heard saying, "Pick up the book and read it."
He thought strangely and went into the study.
The Bible was lying open on the desk.
So, while he was reading that one open page by chance, he came across a word that was deeply engraved in his heart.
It was Romans 13:14, which says, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, but do not succumb to the lusts of the flesh.”
It was only then that Augustine realized the true truth of Christianity, saw his own path, and was able to establish his own view of life.
He realized that he had only lived for his own satisfaction.
In other words, his life during that time was that of his own servant.
In the words he saw, to put on the clothes of Jesus Christ was to put off the old clothes you wore in the past and put on the new clothes, Jesus Christ.
It means turning your life 180 degrees.
In other words, it was to turn from one's own servant to the servant of God.
A person's life that is governed by the spirit does not do the works of the flesh for the sake of lust.
It is only through the Spirit of God that we put on the garment of righteousness.
you are
I pray in the name of the Lord that you will live a life that is governed by the Spirit of God.
3. Consequences of Two Kinds of Life
sinful human. A life governed by the desires and actions of nature leads to death and has no future.
However, those who live under the control of the Spirit are living a life of continuous progress every day.
At this time, Paul's concern was the death that came to Christians.
He says that he shares this victory with Christ, who overcame death as one with Christ.
conclusion
People live by two principles of life.
Some lead a life dominated by the body.
He has no change in life. There is no progress in faith.
There is no future, just being faithful to human instincts.
But some live a life dominated by the Spirit of God.
He has a life change.
He will join in victory with Christ.
Will I live a life without a future because I am faithful to my instincts?
Whether you will live a victorious life with Christ because you are governed by the Spirit of God
It depends on your choice.
