Two Witnesses (Revelation 11)
Who are the two witnesses in this chapter and when they took up the role of witnesses is a very special person, so they look like people like Moses and Elijah in the Old Testament.
All. We want to look at their witnessing work and imitate the center of the Two Witnesses.
1. Who are the two witnesses? is to
2-3, 'Forty-two months' and 'One thousand two hundred and sixty days' (3 years and 6 months, a Jewish month is 30 days) are the period of great tribulation when God's people will be persecuted, and at the same time, two witnesses will testify of the gospel.
It means the period of residence.
After drawing the activity situation of the two witnesses, it is said in verse 14 of this chapter.
Revelation 11:14 "The second woe has passed, but behold, the third woe is coming quickly."
The two witnesses will be active during the first half of the Great Tribulation. After this event, the final woe, the third woe, is foretold.
The Witnesses are actually two evangelists who are great witnesses who will come out of the church during the tribulation period.
Let's take a closer look at these two witnesses.
(1) The clothes of the two witnesses are 'coarse sackcloth'. These sackcloth are usually worn when repenting, so they are witnesses calling out repentance to the world.
Luke 10:13 “Woe to Chorasin, woe to Bethsaida, if all the mighty works that were done in you had been performed in Tire and Sidon, they would already be clothed in linen and sitting in ashes.
would have repented.”
(2) 'Two Witnesses' means 'two olive trees', and the olive tree is used to light the lamp. These are the witnesses who light up the dark world on the basis of repentance.
Matthew 5:14 'You are the light of the world; a city on a hill cannot hide it'
(3) 'Two candlesticks', since no candles were used at that time, the candlesticks are lamps.
(4) 'fire came out of their mouth', the power of the message they testify.
Luke 12:49 “I have come to cast fire on the earth; if it were already kindled, what would I want?”
(5) He has the same ability as Elijah to keep it from raining 'during the days of prophecy'.
James 5:17 “Elijah was a man like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.”
(6) It will be like the miracles Moses performed in Egypt, 'that the waters were turned into blood'. Exodus 7:20 'Moses and Aaron lifted up the rod of the Lord... and struck the river, and all the waters were
turn into blood
(7) 'At any time', there are no specific details, but at that time he will show the ability and miracles to surprise people.
1) Various interpreters refer to these two witnesses as 'Enoch, Moses, and Elijah', but there is no indication in the Bible that they will appear as witnesses of Jesus in the last days.
The evidence is that they suddenly come and testify because it is different from our gospel ideas.
Looking at the power of the two witnesses, I suddenly think of Moses and Elijah. However, Moses and Elijah have absolutely nothing to do with the theory of the last days.
①Moses was obviously dead. It was just that the angel had moved them to a place where the body could not be found.
Jude 1:9 "When Michael the archangel was arguing with the devil and arguing about the body of Moses, he did not dare write a blasphemous judgment, but said, May the Lord rebuke you.
Nora said'
② Also, Elijah went to heaven in a whirlwind.
2 Kings 2:11 “The two were walking and talking, and suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire struck them, and Elijah ascended into heaven in a whirlwind.
③ Also, God took a man named Enoch to heaven. Genesis 5:24 'Enoch walked with God, and God took him, so he was not in the world.
didn't
Hebrews 11:5 “By faith Enoch was moved so that he would not see death, so that he was found no more, because God had removed him.
I have received a testimony saying that
2) Usually, it is interpreted as the church, the Old and New Testaments, or the gospel itself, but it is important to note that the whole church cannot be said to have such power in view of the actions of these two witnesses.
is. Because gifts are not universal.
In particular, since 'two witnesses' has the definite article 'he' (toys), it cannot be said to refer to all Christian saints. Anyway, it doesn't matter who the two witnesses are.
How we can become the Lord's Witnesses like these two witnesses is the inspiration for the message in this text.
Rather than arguing over the interpretation of the two witnesses, it should be noted that the two witnesses triumphed over the Antichrist.
2. Activities of the Witnesses who died
The two witnesses were eventually captured by the Antichrist and martyred. They were originally prepared to die and went forth as witnesses. Although they exerted great power
The world has already become the heaven and earth of the Antichrist and cannot but be killed.
7-8, 'the beast coming up from the abyss' refers to the antichrist revealed in chapter 13. The bodies of the two witnesses are 'the place where the Lord was crucified', that is, Jerusalem.
All. Because at that time Jerusalem is already the fortress of the Antichrist, and because that city becomes the city of the Antichrist, they will be killed there.
is.
9-10, 'The body was seen for three and a half days' and was abandoned on the streets of Jerusalem and not buried. The wicked will rejoice and now they have taken over the world
Rum will be rampant. But there is not much time left until the Lord comes and destroys them.
Even if you have the ability, you die.
# Stephen, who was full of power, was stoned to death and said that his face was like an angel, but he eventually died.
# The bishop of Smyrna Church was burned at the stake,
Revelation 2:10 ...'Faith unto death, and I will give you the crown of life'
The fact that the Greek word to testify is used together with the word martyr reflects this. Faith ready to die is a glorious thing from the Lord
You can wear victory and resurrection.
3. Even though the two witnesses died, they were revived to testify to the ascension
In this world where we live for a while, it is the life of ordinary people who are terrified of reality and die without leaving any message for the world.
As the saying goes, tigers die and leave their skin behind, and people die and leave their names. There are some famous great men.
By dying on the cross, Jesus surprised the world by being resurrected and ascending into heaven again. In this way, many people in the church died like Christ, but lived
As you know, there are many people who have become a light in the world.
The two witnesses of the last days appearing here in this chapter died, but are raised to life and we can see a strange scene where they ascend to heaven alive like Enoch and Elijah.
11-12, 'vitality' enters, so I stand up. Two Witnesses ascended 'on the clouds'.
John 11:25 "Jesus said to me, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live."
13, When the two witnesses ascended to heaven, there was a great earthquake, and 1/10 of the city collapsed, and it said that 7,000 people died in the earthquake. 1/10 means God's
Genesis 28:22 “This stone, which I have set up as a pillar, will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will surely give to God a tenth.”
The number of dead 7,000 means that the destruction of God's punishment is enormous, and 7,000 (7×1,000) is a large number and symbolizes God's judgment.
In all ages, God has commanded the saints to risk their lives to testify of the Lord like the two witnesses who will appear in the last days. It is called the end of this age. God's camp in every way
We live in a social situation that deserves oar.
The mission of preaching the gospel given to us at this time is like the two witnesses, as promised in Acts 1:8, Acts 1:8 'But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will
You will be my witnesses throughout the generations and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” You must be able to bear witness to death by receiving the fullness and power of the Holy Spirit of that promise.
All. In this last age, I hope that we can be sacrificed like the two witnesses in order to testify even if we die if only the gospel is for the world's honor, economy, and life.
Therefore, like the two witnesses, I pray that we will become witnesses together with the hope that we will become eternal victors through the resurrection and ascension when the Lord comes.
