"Two Witnesses (The True Church)"
Revelation 11:1-14
Revelation 11:1-13 records the event in which two witnesses, the true church of Jesus Christ, hurriedly carry out the mission of preaching the gospel in this world. It also records the martyrdom suffering that comes from the preaching of the gospel.
[1] Scale movement (Rev 11:1~2)
The Apostle John had a vision in chapter 10 telling him to eat the little book. He sees another vision. It was a man who gave John a reed that was heavy and thick like a staff, and it was like a measuring stick. He commanded them to rise up and measure the temple.
1. What does the scale mean?
The scale here is a reed like a cane. Revelation 11:1 says, “And he gave me a reed like a staff and said… ' he said. ‘Stand-like reed’ refers to a ruler made using straight reeds. Reeds are a common plant in the Jordan River Valley. ‘Measurement’ refers to the measurement of the boundaries of a district and means the restoration or securing of ownership. It means the protection or jurisdiction of an owned boundary. What did the reed staff, the measuring instrument given to John, mean?
1) It means God's standard.
It is the standard of value set by God Himself. It means the standard set by God Himself. In other words, it is the stick ruler that God Himself has ordained and used. It is not that the Apostle John or any other man-made standard ruler should be used.
In Ezekiel 40:3, “three ropes and a measuring pole” appear. All of them mean using the standard value set by God Himself. If so, it is an expression of God's own sovereign will.
2) It means God's protection area.
In Revelation 11:1, it says, “And he gave me a reed like a staff, and said, Arise, and measure the temple of God and the altar, and those who worship therein.”
The use of the scale indicates who is entering. This is to establish God's protection zone. It means that God's own jurisdiction is determined.
3) It means the word of God.
In Revelation 11:1, “He gave me a reed like a staff… Measure,” he said.
Here, 'measure' (metron, me, tron) means scale, quantity, horse, number, standard, range, etc. This is the meaning of 'reed' (kalamos, ka, lamoj). It is not some abstraction, but the very highest standard of God Himself, the Word, the Logos (lo, goj).
The logos (lo, goj) is Jesus Christ Himself. The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the staff and reeds used by God.
There are two words in the division that marks the Bible.
The canon is called the canon, and it is called the canon. Canon is the Greek word canon (καν
