This verse is the process by which God finds out criminals by drawing lots (16-18).
God does not directly inform the criminal, but continues to apply psychological pressure through lottery. It is important to catch the criminal, but it was to keep the Israelites aware of the seriousness of the sin through these four search processes and to prevent this kind of sin from appearing again.
But as a result of drawing lots, it was the tribe of Judah. The tribe of Judah had the most population among the 12 tribes, was the tribe that was promised the best land, and was the leading tribe in the wilderness. Later, a king came out through the tribe of Judah, and it was such a traditional tribe that even the Messiah was born. However, a patriotic criminal appeared in such a family. Likewise, no matter how good a family is, sometimes descendants can be shameful and shameful. So you should always be careful.
What does Joshua call Achan in verse 19? Not 'this enemy', but 'my son'
What we need to learn here is that we should hate sin, but we shouldn't hate people as well. Sin is a call to pity and sympathize with Achan, though it was made by Achan.
There are two ways to glorify God.(19)
1) If you go to the Olympics, win a gold medal, and pray while kneeling on the screen, is that honoring you? The very act of obedience and obedience to God from the beginning is to glorify God. Giving up myself, breaking my self, and exalting the Lord is itself glorifying the Lord. 2) There are people who live as they please until the end, come out in front of the final judgment seat, confess everything they have, and glorify God by being judged. Those of this class glorify by being destroyed.
'Tell me what you've done, and don't hide it from me' (19) What you need to know here is that confession of sins is absolutely essential in order to become a victorious saint, a victorious community, and a victorious church.
Where did Achan hide the stolen goods? that is hidden in the ground
It is worth noting here that you stole something from God, but it's even worse that you tried to cover up the fact that you stole it. that it was intentional. How many times did Achan cast lots? I did it 4 times. He was trying to hide it until the last one was chosen.
What would have happened if Achan had confessed his mistake and repented during the lottery? You will not be forgiven again and face a disastrous end. However, he tried to hide it, but in the end it all came out.
Job 20:15 “Even if he swallows up riches, he will vomit again, because God brings him back out of his belly.”
Of course, because we are human, we can make mistakes and sin. No one is free here. Because we are sinners, anyone has the potential to sin. That is why we need to look back and reflect on ourselves every day.
Who can enter heaven? Heaven is the place where people who have repented, not those who have not sinned or who are impeccable, enter.
Also, from the point of view of sin, there are two types of sinners in this world. The first is the guilty sinner, the second is the undetected sinner; Where are the criminals caught while committing a crime? We're in prison now, but it's us who haven't been caught. It is a very little sin to be revealed in this world. But before God's judgment seat, even the smallest details are revealed. So, when you are on this earth, you must repent to receive blessings. You cannot repent on this earth, and if you stand before the judgment seat, you will not have a chance to repent there.
‘Seeing One’: Where Does Sin Begin? It starts with seeing. When Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, she didn't eat it without closing her eyes, but it started with seeing.
David's sin began when he saw Bathsheba bathing while walking on the roof. It matters what I'm looking at. However, seeing is not a sin. We can't walk around with our eyes closed because we're afraid to see it while walking, and that shouldn't lead to greed. Also, even if there is covetousness, if you do not take action, you will not face such a disastrous end. However, in the end, it led to actions, which led to a great sin.
Hosea 2:15 “From there I will give my vineyard, and the Valley of Achilles as a gate of hope.”
How can a valley of pain be turned into a valley of hope? That is, only when we thoroughly remove the disobedience like Achan in us, we can become the goal of hope.
So I must always remember that Achan is not in someone else, but in me. We pray that we will be victorious over sin.
