Title: Victory Dog/Psalm 18:1~2
Contents Victory Song / Psalm 18:1~2
Key Verse: “I love you, O LORD, my strength… You are the horn of my salvation and my stronghold.”
Word: Psalm 18 is a psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, and it is the song David sang on the day the Lord delivered David from all his enemies and the hand of Saul. What is unusual in this poem is that he does not refer to himself as the king of Judah, but merely uses the word ‘servant of the Lord’, and is proud of being a servant of God.
1. The secret of David's victory over all his enemies (verses 1-2)
David was able to defeat his enemies and overcome them because he loved Jehovah and established a relationship with God that made him his strength. In his relationship with him, God became ‘a rock, a fortress, a deliverer, a rock of refuge, a shield, a horn of salvation (power), and a stronghold’.
2. David's Danger (verses 3-5)
His situation was in great danger of killing, destroying, and tormenting: the cords of death, the floodgates of iniquity, the cords of Hades, and the snare of death.
3. The means of salvation (verses 3 to 6)
He called to the LORD (verse 3), and in trouble he cried out to the LORD and cried out to my God (verse 6). David was a praying servant of Jehovah. And God is a God who hears prayers. Prayer is praying without giving up until the moment of answering, “My cry has been heard in his ears until it reaches God like David (verse 6).
4. God's work of salvation (verses 7-19)
God's work of salvation first shakes the earth (verse 7). Second, God prepares the fire of wrath (verse 8). Third, He comes with his speed (verse 10) and secretness (verse 11). Fourth, it is an omnipotent and unsuccessful work that makes the sea floor exposed and the foundation of the earth appear bare (verses 12-15) through hail, charcoal fire (lightning), thunder, arrows, and sniffles. Fifth, He takes me from above, delivers me from many waters (deep waters), and saves me from strong enemies. In order to save me, He is accomplishing a tremendous work of history and the creation of heaven and earth. So, He is my will, and He is the God who guides me to a wide place. God delights in me with his sovereign grace. We must trust God and become saints who experience God's work through earnest prayer that rises as the dangers and challenges of the enemy are stronger.
Prayer: Help us to experience God's work that leads us to a wider place in our lives that depend on God. I pray in Jesus name.
