Title: Virtual Seven Words (架上七言)
Text: Isaiah 53:4-9, Luke 23:39-43
'Don't blame it for anything but the road, don't go!' Therefore, the Talmud's [Three Golden Gates of Language] are spoken in the language life of the Hebrews. The value of a language can be assessed according to several circumstances. ‘Who said it? When did you say it? Where did you say it? What are you talking about?’ and so on. Today we celebrated Palm Sunday. One of the most important weeks of Jesus' earthly life (March 17-22) begins. It's called 'Sorrowful Week'. It is the week in which Jesus, who came to this earth in the flesh in obedience to Heavenly Father's will, suffered the atoning death. It is a week to remember the suffering of the cross, where the Lord took the burden of sin and death for us. It is the culmination of the season of Lent.
Our Easter Sunday is the result of this suffering. There is no crown without suffering (No Cross, No Crown.). Of the Holy Week, Good Friday is the most precious and important. Because it is the day of the Lord's death. In order to remember that suffering together, we searched for the text and title of the Word. The virtual seven words (架上七言), [Seven Words from the Cross]. ‘Who?’ you mean? These are the words of our Savior, Jesus Christ. You mean ‘when?’ These are the words He said when He died on the cross for us and in our place. ‘Where?’ You mean? These are the words spoken in the frame of the cross, which is unique in heaven and earth. You mean, ‘For what?’ These are the words spoken for the practice of love. These are the words addressed to Heavenly Father (1, 4, 7) and for people (2, 3).
This is the virtual seven words (架上七言). 1 Word/“Father, forgive us. for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Verse 2: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). 3 words/“Woman, behold. son” (John 19:26). "Purple. your mother” (John 19:27). 4 words/“Eli Eli lama sabachthani” (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34). 5 words/“I am thirsty” (John 19:28). Six words/“It is finished” (John 19:30). 7 Words/“Father, into your hands I commit my soul” (Luke 23:46). Prayer for the forgiveness of all sinners (1 word), the conditions for forgiveness of sins (2 words), a new relationship at the foot of the cross (3 words), the forgiveness of sins (4 words), human thirst (5 words) words), the fulfillment of prophecy (6 words), and return to the Father after fulfilling the mission (7 words) It is the realization of the unbreakable love that took place on the cross.
Then there, all the sufferings the Lord suffered were for all sinful mankind. It was a universal ransom for all mankind. There is a condition to make this universal atonement grace mine. Changing wrong thoughts, that is, repentance (Acts 2:36-41). We need to change our thinking (Isa 53:1-12) that ‘he is chastised, smitten by God, and suffers’ (Isaiah 53:4b). “We are all like sheep, each of us has turned to his own way, and the Lord hath laid upon him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6). This is what Christianity calls the “Way of the Cross”. Believing in this “way of the cross” is the condition for salvation (1 Corinthians 1:18-25).
