Title: Visions of Patmos/Revelation 1:1-11
Contents Patmos vision/Revelation 1:1-11
Key Verse: “He said, “Write what you see in a book, and send it to the seven churches of Ephesus, Smyrth, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea” (Revelation 1:11).
I want to receive grace while meditating on the book of Revelation from today. What kind of Bible is the book of Revelation? In the Persian War of 490 BC, the Greek army defeated the Persian army that landed on the east coast of Attica. A Greek warrior ran 42.195 km to Athens and delivered the victory message to the trembling citizens, saying, “We have won.” The hero It is said that they ran too fast and choked to death, but the marathon commemorates this. The book of Revelation is similar to this. It is delivering the good news to the seven churches in Asia who are trembling for fear.
First, the background of the book of Revelation is the extreme tribulation. The time when these words were written was the era of Emperor Nero, when Rome publicly persecuted Christianity, and the apostle John was imprisoned on the small and desolate island of Patmos in the Aegean where criminals and political prisoners were housed. There was.
“I, John, your brother and a sharer in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus” (Revelation 1:9). Moreover, all the churches in Asia that were established by evangelism were also suffering extreme tribulation together.
Third, John is delivering this vision to the seven churches in Asia. The persecution and tribulation of the church that is currently underway will soon be over, and the glorious and splendid kingdom of God that the Lord will accomplish is being shown how happy we will be. This is the book of Revelation.
Prayer: Lord, help us to see the risen Lord again to the saints in tribulation, so that we do not lose heart and have victory. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
