Title: Vow in the Wilderness!/Genesis 28: Chapter
Content Title: Vow of the Wilderness!
Bible: Genesis 28: Chapter
Date: 1997. 11. 16 (Sunday) Sunday afternoon at Mission Church
review:
At that moment, he sees a vision and hears the voice of God.
1. The door to heaven is opened and a ladder is laid, and you will see angels ascending and descending. / This is also the path to be walked forward for Jacob.
2. At the end of the ladder, Jehovah God stands and fulfills the promise he once again made to Abraham. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are now weary. I thought it was the road of suffering in the wilderness, but that place is where God stands and is with us and gives us the promise.
3. The promise of verse 15 gives us all unspeakable grace, comfort, and courage.
Genesis 28:15 I am with you, I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land, and I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
On the path of a humble fugitive, as if no one was with him, God said...
1) I will be with you.
2) And wherever you go, I will protect you.
3) And he will bring you back to this land.
4) What I have granted you is that there is a promise.
5) He will do it all.
6) And he says that he will never leave you no matter what happens until it is all done.
What greater comfort can there be than this?
What more wonderful comfort can there be than this?
These are the words of comfort and encouragement that God has spoken to me and to you who value our relationship with Him.
Whether I am wandering in the wilderness,
In the absence of anything, they are not very important.
only the will of God,
It is the fulfillment of your promise.
It is God who makes it happen.
We just have to believe and follow.
Jacob's Response (16-17)
28:16 Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, Surely the LORD is here, and I did not know it.
28:17 And he was afraid, and said, Awe, this place, and nothing else, but this is the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
How much comfort must God's visions and promises bring to Jacob?
Last night I slept in the desert with no one in the form of a fugitive, exhausted, but this morning is overflowing with the comfort of Almighty God.
Now it's Jacob's turn to react.
God's grace necessarily demands our response.
And those who receive grace are bound to respond.
What was the first thing Jacob felt?
That's fear. (verse 17)
/ There is a phenomenon that is common to those who have actually felt the presence of God. It is fear. Fear is a holy fear that is different from the fear that comes out of three thousand miles according to the legend. It is the fear belonging to the truth that comes between the almighty and holy heavenly God and creation.
Ex) All the prophets and apostles felt fear when they felt the presence of God. / Everyone feels a holy religious fear when they experience the presence of God. Moses (Ex 20:18,19), Job (42:56), Isaiah (6:5), Peter (Luke 5:8), John (Revelation 1:17,18), etc. Overwhelmed by deep awe, he made the same confession.
Ex) Those who have met God fear God. Know how to fear God, both in words and in life. But those who do not have this experience do not know how to fear God. The fear of God is accompanied by this holy fear. This fear arises only when we know that God is with us.
What is the content of fear?
“I didn’t know.” (verse 16)
1. What did you not know?
① I did not know that God was here. / I thought I was alone.
② I did not know that this place was the temple of God. / A place to meet God,
③ I did not know that this place was the gate of heaven / A place to receive God's grace and blessings.
2. Where is that?
This place, where they are lying right now, is just that.
A place where there was no one in the empty fields, and I was lost in loneliness and fear, where I did not know where to go. Even in the evening, there was no place to rest, so I made a bed with a stone and slept with my wrinkled body fastened with a collar. This is the temple of God, the heaven is the door of
Dear saint!
Let's remember!
Living in the empty fields is a time to meet God and a time to receive God's blessings.
Ex) Look at the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness! / All of Jesus' work and victory had already been accomplished in the wilderness.
Ex) Let's remember that the apostle Paul was tried in the Arabian wilderness for 3 years before he was used!
So is Jacob today.
It was not in the comfort of his father's house when everything was guaranteed, but in the desert where there was no one to receive his own promise.
Do you feel that the place I live now is empty, a wilderness with no one to depend on?
Let us remember that that very place is where God dwells, the temple of God, and the gate of heaven.
If you win in the beans, the promise will come true.
Worship in the Wilderness (18-19)
28:18 Jacob got up early in the morning, took the stone he had been pillowing on, set it up as a pillar, and anointed it with oil.
28:19 And he called the name of the place Bethel. The original name of the city was Luz.
Jacob worships as much as he can.
He took the stone he had made for a pillow, made it a pillar, poured oil on it, built an altar, and offered worship. All that Jacob possessed was offered on this altar.
Worship to God is that way.
Once he knew that God was with me, Jacob offered everything he had to worship.
The name of that place was called Bethel. Bethel means house of God, and Dous means 'onewn tree'.
Vow in the Wilderness (20-22)
And now he opens his mouth and offers his earnest vows to God.
28:20 And Jacob made a vow, saying, God is with me, and keeps me on this way I am going, and gives me bread to eat and clothes to wear.
28:21 If you bring me back to my father's house in peace, the LORD will be my God.
28:22 This stone, which I have set up as a pillar, will be the house of God, and of all that you give me, I will surely give to God a tenth.
The vow is to do this.
A vow is made after giving all of one's things to God.
Ex) Hannah’s vow prayer
Ex) Jininsa Daecheonmyeong (盡人事待天命) / You don't want to just sit down and make a vow. It is meaningless to make a vow after preparing a way to escape and a way to cross both legs. I make a vow after giving the best I can. That vow is the confession of a believer who trusts only in God.
The contents of the vow are...
① God is with me on my way and keeps me...
② He gave me food to eat and clothes to wear...
③ If you let me return to my father's house in peace...
You don't know how simple and humble you have become.
Those who spend the night alone in the wilderness become humble.
And we come to realize that this is the life that God keeps.
The contents of the vow to value...
④ God will be my God...
⑤ The stone I set up as a pillar will be the house of God...
⑥ Of all things, I will surely give a tenth to God. / This is a confession of faith.
No compromise or deal,
This is a confession of faith along with earnest wishes.
