Title: Wait Until This

Text: Luke 22:47~53

“Jesus spoke to him, saying, ‘Be patient with this.’ And he touched his ear and healed him” (Luke 22:51).

Hemingway's 'The Sea and the Old Man'. Near Havana, Cuba, an old man rode a yacht and wandered the sea to catch fish. On the 85th day, I caught a blue whale. It was a really big whale weighing 1500 pounds. I had a battle with whales to be dragged and dragged. The whale was bitten by the weeds and died. The old man was returning to Havana, tying a whale to the side of a small boat. On the way back, however, I encountered an unexpected group of sharks. When they arrived at the port, the whale had only a head, a backbone, and a small tail left. But he prepares to leave again tomorrow. A person of faith can endure. Another name for faith is patience.

If you persevere like Jesus, your endurance of faith will be completed. Peter cut off the ear of the one who came to arrest Jesus. What did Jesus mean when he said, “Be patient with this”?

1. Be patient even if you are misunderstood.

One of the most difficult things for people to tolerate is being misunderstood. Few things are as heartbreaking as this. Jesus was the Son of God. However, they misunderstood as an enemy and many soldiers came. So Peter used a sword. But Jesus said, “Be patient with this.”

2. Be patient even when betrayed.

Betrayal is colder than the north wind, and betrayal is bitter than sprinkling pepper on a wound. Jesus truly loved Judas. Evidence of this can be seen from the fact that the 13 householders entrusted all their money. Then Judas kissed him not as a sign of love, but as a sign of betrayal. Peter couldn't bear it, but Jesus said, "Be patient with this."

3. Endure even detestable behavior.

They sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. It was an atmosphere where the Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes, and high priests who were desperate to arrest Jesus could receive everything no matter how expensive they were called. At that time, I couldn't quite understand that it was sold for 30 yuan. It was a staggering amount of money, and Judas, the detestable who looked down on Jesus, could not hate him so much. So Peter's unbearable blood exploded. But even so, Jesus said, “Be patient with this.”

4. Be patient even if your assertion is too strong.

Judas sold Jesus. Because there are people to buy, there are people who sell. Why did you buy it? I bought it to kill. Why did you try to kill me? Because their argument was too strong. Jesus is not the Messiah. It was argued that Jesus was not the Son of God. So Peter was outraged that they tried to kill them without yielding to any of their claims. But Jesus is admonishing us to “be patient with this.”

Prayer: All-suffering Lord! I pray that you will give me strength to endure anything, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
